Almost done with my upgrade
Well, I'm upgrading my nearly stock 2004 KHS Sport (now it's the Alite 300). I already added suspension months ago. Now, I've upgraded with a better and more compact crank (was a 48/38/28 Tourney). The new one is an SR 42/34/24. Replaced the SEC Twist Shift with Pods, Deore FD (for the smaller crank) and upgrading the drivetrain from 7 speed FW to a cassette (7 spd--don't need much more here in Oklahoma--going from 13-28 to 11-30). I'll ride the Tourney RD until it breaks. I'm just waiting on the hubs to come in (see my thread on how I accidentally got two hubs). One for the primary, and the one by mistake for my backup. I'll post pics as soon as I'm done--probably before I get the wheels built though. I'll finally have it on the post your rigs thread. I did it all on e-bay, so I'm not out more than $65.00 for the whole shabang (and all new parts!). I even sold those twist shifters and my old rigid fork this week on ebay.

Still kicking.
Why did you downgrade the cranks? Any shimano product is better than an sr suntour is.

I'm not so sure on that. That Tourney crank is bent up (from the car rack--a problem since fixed) and has irreplaceable rings. I found one with replaceable rings and has some more durability to it. Besides, I got it for a great price and if it's downer, I'm not out too much. I really also wanted to give the compact a try before I spent much more money. Any significant money I spend anytime soon will be for a new bike, so stuff like this is to get a feel for what I like. I've been on the MTB for less than a year (ankle injury ended my running days). I used to road bike in High School--a lot--so I still have the knowledge of repair and stuff, but what I like in an MTB I'm still figuring out.
