Avid SD 7 'v-brakes' help...Do you need new levers?
Hi all,
i'm considering purchasing some Avid Single Digit 7 'v-brakes' for my XC hardtail rig, and i'm curious to know what levers you need? Will just normal Shimano levers do? Or do you need to buy a special set?
Thanks!!

Yes I currently have some lower end Shimano levers and brakes. I'll be replacing the brakes hopefully to SD 7 very soon (as I can get a pair cheap). I wouldn't know where to get SD 7 levers from? How much are they over there?

Go ebay for that sort of part. I paid about $45AU for my SD5 levers (the pair) including shipping from the states. Just make sure you buy from someone with good feedback and check that they are willing to post the gear here before you bid. Also pays to check that you can make the sort of payment method that they require, personally I only buy through paypal if I can help it.

Yep i'll be trying eBay for some levers, I dont want to spend heaps on them though! Wow I think I might try out those deals from the US harov, a few levers there, a pair of SD7 levers at 0.99c at the moment (not sure how high it will go). Only thing is postage $$ and I dont have PayPal .

Google it and follow the directions. You will need a credit card I think. Thats the seller I got my levers from, as a bidding tip either give yourself a maximum and stick to it, or watch a few sales and get a feel for the bidding process and the items value on ebay before bidding. Never bid on anything that requires a payment by money order, likely the item dosent exist, avoid direct deposit unless you really think you can trust the seller. Some of these sellers will take a personal cheque but wont send until it clears. Good luck and enjoy.

And for brake levers via eBay, you probably want to make sure they're NIB or NOS. Used ones may have been crashed.

Yeh we'll i've done a lot of eBaying for things here in Australia/Singapore, money orders and direct deposit the most common but never anything over in the States. I guess PayPal is the easiest option, and with all the currency conversion etc. I havn't got the brakes yet although I will in a couple of days, look at getting the levers then maybe .

The Big Handsome Guy has some good deals, and he's a fair seller on ebay. I used to buy a lot of stuff from him, then resell it here in Australia. Avid levers are hard to find in stock here, and tend to be very overpriced. And since you've got the Paypal sorted, you're all set.
Cheers.
P.S. You can all buy from me when I return to the US.
