What would happen?
When i sit down on the saddle and when/if sort of bottom the shock out, I look at the rear tire part on the ground and it seems like a ton of weight is being applied to the bottom area. It like gets really wide and sometimes the tire looks like its gunno pop right off the rim. Im 230lb's, which prolly adds a huge factor. So could it the tire or tube ever happen to burst a little? Would a thicker tube help?

Like, put some more air in.

Stop looking at your rear tire. I did the same thing. I weigh 200 and even at 65 psi it seems to squish pretty good. Just enjoy the ride and focus on the trail ahead.

If it burst a little, you would know it...it's almost exactly like getting a flat.
|
most likely you will start getting pinch flats. get a thicker tube and you will get hardly any pinch flats. i would also try some different psi in the tire too.
|
Try inflating the tire 'till it bursts, then back off 10 lbs.

Why does it matter?
You're all going to chastise him for being overweight if he comes back and says 5' 10"? |
All he needs to do is add some air

Have you guys heard about these new tubeless tires? Apparently, you can run really lower pressures with them. This lets your tire flex and conform to the terrain, providing more traction. So yeah, he needs to carry a pump, just like a 4WD. When he gets to the trailhead, he can drop the pressure. But for getting there, he needs higher pressure for more efficiency on hard surfaces. |

what type of tire are you running? I notice when I ride with a thinner walled tire , like a race tire,I feel like the rim is hitting every bump even at 45 or more psi. I have started riding a thicker wall tire( Panaracer Cinder) and only feel the trail if Im below 25psi now. |
