Has anyone got the book? I recently got it for Christmas and I think its a great book to read. Its a 200 page book and i've only read 9 pages and i've already learnt a few things. The authors of the book are Brian Lopes and Lee McCormack and they tell you pretty much everything about mountain biking.

At the start theres this Chapter called "Choose Your Weapon" It explains everything about how to choose the right bike for your riding style and not to buy from a department store, but your local bike shop. It also has the section "Hardtail or Full Suspension". In explains pretty much anything you could think of. I could go on forever explaining the book, but i don't want to ruin it for ya. ;) :p

*goes to amazon*

I need a new book to read. Just finished the vampire chronicles.

I picked it up last year. It's definitly not your average "how to mountain bike" book. There's so much emphasis on bike handling skills and it's so good at explaining.

I thought I knew all the basics but the book at least reminds me of all the stuff I know of, but can't actually do. And I learned a few things I never knew about.

Think of it as an updated, upgraded version of Ned Overend's old book.

And I especially like how they continuously give props to flat pedals.

I even learned from it. It is the only how to book I'll reccomend.

Sounds good, might have to see about getting a copy. Might check it out if the library has one

Yeah, I picked one up last year. It has alot of good information in it and goes into detail of technical skills very well. Worth the buy for sure imo.

I have it. IMO it is the only mountain biking skills book that is worth reading and keeping. I've checked out all the other books there are out there and did not buy or keep any. The content is good and the pictures and paper quality are very nice.

I'll be checking it out too (already ordered it)... since I'm pretty new to off-road biking, I'll put the book to a good test!

A review on Amazon suggested that it's geared more toward downhill than XC. Anyone care to comment? Is this true?

Look at the author...I would be willing to guess (purely a guess as I haven't read it) that it is for people wishing to go fast with gravity giving some assist. Lots of tips probably apply to trail riding like high speed turning. But I would imagine it almost applies exclusively to gravity fed riders

That's BS. The book takes a very practical "bike is a bike is a bike" aproach. They cover each practice equally in their own sections, sure. But when they talk about pedal stroke for example, they don't say it's an XC technique- they talk about what a good pedal stroke is about, and then go into how to use it to your advantage in particular situations. Saving energy in XC, blasting starts in 4x, etc.

I'm an xc rider and I'd say this book is even more helpful than Overend's old book, "How to Mountain Bike Like a Champion". And that was a really good book.

Thanks man, I appreciate it.
