Time ATAC pedal adustments

Greetings from a sunny South AFrica . I am fairly new to MTB racing and have just purchased some TimeATAc XS pedals (first time with cleats ) I am falling my butt off . This has resulted in my riding style becoming really conservative and my self confidence is not good . How can I adjust these so I can disengage quicker . they are set to easiest ???? I have a 300km race over 3 days in 1 months time

They aren't adjustable. The only way to adjust them is to switch the cleat from one foot to the other. In other words run the right clear on your left foot and vice versa. Once the cleats wear in you'll be able to release easier, but generally the ATACs are more difficult to release from unless it's wet. Then you'll have the edge over everyone else

You may want to try some light lube on the cleats.

What effect does switching the cleats have?

It changes the amount of float until release.

NOOOOOOO!! dont switch the cleats unless the left is on the right and vice versa. it makes you have to twist wider to disengage, 20 deg vs 13 release angle. the cleats dont take long to break in. a little bearing grease worked great on mine, and a dirty ride to put abrasives between the cleat and pedal. I had mine broken in in a weekend by doing that. also twist at the ball of the foot and not the ankle. the XS have a square engagement vs the round on the Alium/old ATAC and take a little longer to break in but the cleats will last longer than on the old round ones. good luck, hope this helps

Well, they kinda are but not in the traditional sense.

What you need to do is mount the cleat so it is pointing at your big toe. This wil give you 5-7 degrees of "cheating" room while you are acclimating to clipless pedals.

GENIUS! Never thought of that. Brand new to clipless with ATAC XS's on a Rockhopper. I'll try that and see.
