Hayes Sole or Avid BB7: your choice?
Another comparison thread ...
If you were in the position of having the option of Hayes Sole Hydro brake on your bike, or the glorias Avid BB7 Mechanical...which would you choose and why! Yes they are very differn't, but the Sole is a lower end Hydro, and the BB7 is an very high end mechanical...just wondering what the rest of you thought!
Any comments about the two also welcome

BB7 hands down. I would never go for a low end hydraulic brake. The Sole is a very basic hydraulic brake, it's pretty much a mechanical with fluid. Go with the BB7's, I don't think you will be dissapointed. If you go with the BB7's, you won't have to mess around with brake fluid now would you?

The hayes Sole is 1 piston, I heard it's pretty weak so I'd have to say in this case, BB7. If it was something like an HFX9 then I'd take the HFX9 but Soles... well, let's just say they don't convince me.

I'm almost embarresed to admit Ive used the So1e brakes! But I'll set aside my pride and take one for the team. I honestly can't say that there was any improvement in the Hayes So1e hydro's over the Hayes MX2 mechanical brakes I used, "wasn't too impressed with either" The BB7 Is a super strong cable brake! As for Entry level Hydro's My opinion is not to go any lower than the shimano M-525. Ive found them to at least be a marketable item, with good power.

You're right about the Deore hydros, they're really good for their price.
Cheers!

Well I was expecting the BB7's to be the most popular! I've never ridden with Sole's so I couldn't comment on em though.

I have to second that the Deore hydros work very well for their price range. Never used the Soles but a hydro w/o an opposed piston design i wouldn't want to buy.
