Grips

Looking for a new set of grips for my 2005 Kona Cinder Cone. I'm considering the lock on grips that Oury makes. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have been using the lock on grips for about a year or so. They definately do the job. However, my favorite grips are cheap foam grips.

I've ordered a new handlebar and the lock on's won't be going on it. I will be using regular foam grips.

I just purchases a pair of Oury lock-on grips and loves them. Definetely worth the extra cost. The lock-on grips are easy on and off, just a setscrew on either side on the 2 clamps, and a nice plastic end to fit over the bar end. No more ripped up rubber ends. I will never go back to the rubber slide on grips.

Lock-ons. Period. I rebelled against the expense for years, insisting on cheap ATV grips and 'gorilla snot'. My son razzed me until I finally gave in and got lock-ons. I'll never go back. . . .

go for the ourys for sure...lock-on may not be neccesary...how often do you remove your brake/shift levers? If you have a 2 bolt stem and need to change stems, you dont need to remove the grips. oury grips are the most comfortable grips ive ever tried, and they make you want to get on your bike and ride.

Right now I have three pairs of stock Kona Jacksh*ts. I'm gonna use those till they wear out, then I'm getting lock ons.

That's where I am right now... the Kona Jacksh*ts are starting to wear through. Sounds like the Oury's might be the way to go.

Lizad skin logo or northshore grips are the way to go. They are amazing and last fairly long too!

i use the oury mountain grip and put hose clamps on it. The clamps do the job but at a fraction of the cost.

but that wont prevent the centre of the grip rotating.

lockons have a plastic sheeth thats boneded to the rubber, theyre locked to the handle bar at both ends, and supported all along their length, they simply dont move around on the bar.

the main reason some people dont seem to like them is because theyre a bit chunkier then standard grips and can feel awkward is you have smallish hands and like to ride with gloves.

Rubber grips stay on the bars when you apply a good coating of hairspray first. To remove, stick an old spoke between bar and grip, spray in more hairspray and work it in. Best technique ever...

That's why I was surprised by so many posters liking the Ourys. They're kind of a chunky. There are many other lock-ons that are a more normal profile. The ODI/Yeti grips are pretty slim and easier on my hands, anyway.

I have had good luck with Lizard skins for years. I guess being brand loyal I havent tried anything else to compare.
