Welcome

What type of riding do you plan on doing?

Do you want to start doing jumps and drops or do you plan on keeping it closer to the ground?

that makes a big difference in what model to try.

I am not trying to discourage you from getting a trek at all, but are you only interested in Treks?

I dont plan on doing much jumping, mostly riding through hills around my house and on the street. I am not set on a Trek but my friend had one and i really liked it. very light. also, i dont know too many other brands, lol

I called around my local shops and the price for the Trek 6500 is $830.00. Is that a good price ?

If it's the non-disc version it's a pretty terrible price since MSRP is only $770. The disc version is $910 though. I guess I should ask if you're talking about US dollars though?

I believe the $830 one would mean theyre disk brakes on it.

Most likely it does, but you can't assume things or you know what happens. Also, it could be different if it wasn't USD.

The Rockhopper might be better to look at than the Hardrock if you wanted to do some more serious riding.

Just curious but why is Kona the best for what he wants to do? If you ride the Trek and like it it's certainly not a bad choice. There are certainly more choices than the 5 cited, just have to find out what the LBS has.

I know that I you did not ask me about it, but I am so excited about my cinder cone that I had to jump in. I bought a '05 Cinder Cone. its an amazing bike for my needs. I ride aggressive XC with lots of hill climbing and single tracks. I could not believe the handling of my cinder cone. the frame is strong but light and the '05 components are unbeatable. although I dont think I needed the Hydraulic brakes. mid level mechanical disk would be more than enough. I think they put mechanical on '06 model and the frame has more of a freeride look. and the price dropped around $250, check it out.
