I just got a used 2002 Kona Stinky 18", and I must say I love the bike! I'm about 5' 11", and do some XC riding with the bike, and unfortunetly, the seat post that came with the bike is quite short, I measured the post to be 203mm long. So in doing a quick search online, I found most seat posts to have a length of 350mm, wheres the other 147mm from my post!!? Soon I'll be doing downhill, so I want a beefy post, and was wondering if you guys have any posts that I should look at, and any that I should avoid. ALSO, I was looking at the Titec Hellbent DH post, which has 1.5" of offset, and it looks pretty good, as I'd like to get my weight more over the back wheel to take advantage of the rear shock when riding XC. Does using a post with more offset mean I don't have to raise my seat as high compared to if I were using a straight post, or does the offset only affect where I sit in relation to the rear wheel?

Overrated, overpriced. FSA makes a couple excellent ones.

Considering how many I have destroyed (8 in my first 2 years), and how many thomsons I haven't (0 in 3 years on 3 bikes). I would be the first to say they are neither overated or overpriced. Considering how cheap I usually am when it comes to parts, I would never consider spending 100$ on a pipe of ovalized aluminum until thomson.

They make some of the best stuff on the market. After doing some research on the company I would say that they are worth every penny. :)

I imagine if I'd blown through that many, I'd be incline to go that way too. I'm either easy on equipment or not fast enough :) FSA FR 200 or 'Knock-rated' Titecs have saved me having to shell out the big $.

Well it does not happen often but Mael is right this time :p Thompson makes the best post on the market and they have every size, even the damn 30mm Kona size (I believe the '02 was that, forgot when they changed).

As for the short post, I see no reason for the post to have been cut that short since the Stinky has a full leangth seat tube. For DH/freeride you may need to take an inch or two (25 to 50mm) off to get it low enough not to mess things up.

The off-set will move the seat farther back, not higher or lower, which would work for XC use but unless you have a very long reach the stright post will work better because you will be able to get behind the seat easier. If you do go with an off-set or a Thompsom with the set-back post you can always turn it around when riding DH to move the seat forward.
