Bay Area: Mount Diablo
Hey everybody... I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good xc trails in the bay area...preferably in the east bay....or on Mount Diablo? :) Thank you.

Diablo has a bunch of fireroads and a few sections of legal singletrack. It also has a bunch of very good, pretty technical singletrack that is theoretically off-limits to bikes. That singletrack ranges from very flowy to steep, rocky and ledgy.
If it's been raining access from Danville, Alamo or Walnut Creek is horrible since the lower reaches are adobe clay and unridable, unless you consider pushing a bike that now has 50 lbs of clay sticking to it riding.
Wet Winter acccess can be found in Clayton by climbing Mitchell Canyon. The Winter route if the mountain is wet is Mitchell Canyon-Deer Flat-Juniper-road to Devil's Elbow-North Peak Trail (legal singletrack)-Prospector's Gap-Murchio Gap-Deer Flat-back down Mitchell.

Yeah, there is great riding around here. Im in Danville, and while Im mostly a Downhiller, I get the occasional XC ride in. In the Las Trampas hills, there are some pretty good loops, and some fun (illegal) trails. Diablo is pretty fun when its dry, otherwise the dirt is like cement if it dries on your bike before you can wash it off. The best time to ride Diablo is when the dirt is mostly dry, but just rained on enough to keep the dust down. I work at a shop in Downtown Danville called California Pedaler. Come by and check us out!
