I've decided to keep my current bike and just get a good bike later this year when my skills have improved and the prices have gone down, I was thinking of the non-disc Tassajara (which at a glance seems like the exact Tassaraja Disc minus disc brakes of course) and putting some BB5s or BB7s on it eventually but maybe I should just go for the disc model(hydraulic Hayes Sole MX on it, any good?), I'm almost in love with this bike, I love the fork and the frame especially.

I was also thinking of a KHS Alite 3000 which seems to be in the same price range and a great bike (I think it comes with BB5s or BB7s which seems great to me as well as a lockout fork w/ rebound control and I love the geometry of the bike), Trek 6 series bikes are also in the pricerange but I'm not interested on those.

So well, any opinions on the Tassajara?

I have the Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo (Genesis Geometry), and am very happy w/ it.
If it feels comfy, sounds like a great choice. The warranty is great too (same w/ trek)

I have the Tassajara Disc 2006 and I love it. My bike also comes with clipless pedals and the non-disc does not.

I have a 2006 Tass as well. I've put some Cont Vertical's on it, and some BB7's. I love the bike. It's held up pretty good againt the beating I've put to it. Not too fond of the stock tires, but that's why I got different one's. Take it for a test ride and see how you like it

uh, I raced the piss out of my 05. I added some bb7's and they went on wonderfully. I upgraded the wheels and it liked that too. I thought it was a damn solid bike. The only reason I got rid of it was so I could build my rigid, steel, SS 29er.

i have a 05 disc version and couldn't be happier with it. go with the disk version you won't regret it.

My ride partner's got an '04 non-disc that he can't stand. That's partially due to the fact that the frame seems to be the only part that's held up so far. He's also very rough on it, especially component-wise. Not sure what you'd call our riding style, but it's basically XC with some FR and DJ thrown in where we can get it. Not sure how the '05 and '06 models are spec'd in relation to the '04, but, hopefully, they can take a little more abuse. I've ridden his and it just feels "cheap", if you get my drift. I do think they're a decent value for what you spend, actually and upgrades would help a lot(with his at least-he's just tired of putting money into it).

i have the 06 non disc version. i put on bb7s, fox vanilla rlc, and a king headset. that bugger is fast, strong and agile. youll be flying up the hill faster than any of your buddies. its a good buy. genesis geometry is fantastic. buy this bike

Ahh. I will always have a soft spot for the GF Tassajara - a solid performing bike. I bought the 03 model, v-brake version and it's what got me into riding in the first place. Unfortunately, I got into trials, and the GF took a backseat to my trials rig. However, I've breathed new life into the GF and turned in into a rigid singlespeed for commutes, weekend rides in the city and hair-raising rides on the trails. I don't think I'll ever let it go.

on the other hand my buddy got an 05 hydraulic disc version and it sucked. seems like you got the right idea, though...bb7s all the way if you do go disc.

Just the bike, itself. Well, the components, really. Brakes, especially. The fork a little bit. It rides alright, as long as you're doing light XC. Like I said, tho, this is an '04 so I don't know how the newer models ride/perform. It's better than it was due to upgrades: pedals, brakes, shifters, chain, rear der, and BB. I think it was a good bike for the money, don't get me wrong, but he's put more money into it than what he paid for it new. It's just not suited to his taste or riding style. Plus, he's going full squishy this year.
