Difference in forks...
What're the differences between inverted forks like a Dorado's and nons like the 888 series??
|
What information are you looking for exactly? Most inverted forks, by design, are for dhillers, They almost all have exceptional damping (both rebound and compression) Some have more adjustability than the others.
Common complaints about them all is a lack of lateral stiffness. Because they are missing the arch they tend to be a little "flexy" than standard forks. One of those common things, people who love em, love em a lot, people who hate em, hate em a lot. The only commonality is generally lighter riders like them and heavier riders don't. |
ARe there any other advantages with inverted and DHing or is it pretty much the damping/compression difference? Casue I don't see them much. Always wondered what they were all about.
|
I believe the advantage was weight savings. Since I am not an inverted fork fan I don't know much beyond they are generally higher end damping and such
|
It may seem like there is a weight savings, but extra mass has to be used in the upper tubes and crowns to achieve more clamp surface to resist flex. Conventional forks generally have the best weight/stiffness ratio. While inverted may look cool, seals are lubed better, and the stanchions are better protected from nicks, and scratches, the Non-Inverted design has more pros than cons.

I thought that inverted forks were supposed to be lighter. It had something to do with re-enforcing the crown, something like that, and not having so much stuff near the bottom.
|
Inverted forks typically have less unsprung weight than comparable traditional forks (aka "not so much stuff near the bottom.")

I have a t-shirt from a company called Halston, and they made a fork called "Inversion". Whatever happened to them?
