Hey guys, i've been riding a specialized stumjumper fsr for 2 years now. My previous bike before that was a rockhopper fs. I've now decided to try to get into freeriding. I'm planning on getting an ironhorse 7point5 this summer. I was just wondering how common is it for people to use clipless pedals while freeriding. I switched over to clipless a couple years back and i love them. I can see how you'd want regular platforms if you want to bail, but i can also see the advantage of having clipless. Is there anyone here who has any advice on which kind to use?

If you are used to them I'd think it fine.
The advice is usually for non -users to worry. The wipeout with the foot clipped may twist the ankle. Things happen fast when it goes awry.
I climb steep rocks and hop an -XC frame, I prefer the quick jump off.
Climbing XC, I miss 'em.
Do what you feel comfortable with\with your skill level.
New to freeride, or new bike? Maybe run platforms 'till you get settled.

I would use platforms.
As mentioned above, things happen fast when it goes awry.

Most people I race DH against go clipless, but I just can't get the hang of doing something requiring that much body english clipped in. I have to feel like I can tweak my feet around on the pedals more than any amount of float will let me. Platforms with a good traction pin placement are a must, though, since freeriding is going to put you in situations where your feet will get rattled off poor pedals. And like the other folks said, things happen pretty fast and a dab of the foot might save the day.
