disc brake, is this a deal? also XTR question
I found a set of Hayes at supergo ($195 for 2, complete), how is this deal? Is this the model some of you suggested in an earlier post?:
Hayes at Supergo
Also- Shimano has come out with a new XTR brake shifter, they have a model for noth disc and v-brakes. It looks sweet, but you have to use their proprietary disc and hub (bummer). Any of you seen or ridden this rig yet?
TIA

I can't comment on those, I have these: https://www.supergo.com/itemdisplay.a...559&subid=7589
and they work great, but they're twice the price.
I've seen the new XTR. Keep in mind this is designed as a lighter weight system and is a two piston design. The XT model is a four piston design and doesn't require the proprietary hubs.
If I were to get new brakes, I'd get the same ones I have or the XT's. I like Hayes, but a friend of mine prefer's his XT's.

BTW, did you decide on a frame/bike yet?

I was just over at Razor Rock's website, and you can get a set of Hayes brakes w/Razor Rock levers already installed for $199 ea.
I love my levers, much better than the stock ones!

link me to razor rock please...
If I don't get off this computer and stop bidding on spare parts on ebay I may have already made up my mind about most of my components. I've been searching around there for spare parts and been surprised how many spare doo-dads people are selling, lots of them new.
There is a local bike shop in Tulsa- T-town bikes, and they have always had excellent service. I will give them first shot at my cash when I start buying even if it costs a couple more bucks. Besides I am hoping they might sponsor my son next year in the races. There is a limit to my loyalty though, they at least have to come close to the best price I find elsewhere or I will sponsor my boy myself...

Link to Razor Rock is: www.razorrock.com
I found the "deal" on the order form. The site is pretty basic, and you have to search around a bit to get the information you want/need.
However, their product is great! Best level feel I've ever tried! One finger comfort, two finger strength!

Hey Mike, I checked out the new XTR stuff on Saturday. The Shifter/brake combo is nice but it will definitly take some time to get used to. Also, if you crash hard you will or can brake both the shifter and the brake lever at the same time. If the shifter gose so will the brake lever and vise versa.
The XTR is however compatable with XT derailers and brakes so if you wantend to upgrade your shifters and brake levers with out getting an entire groupo of XTR you could.
For anything other then xc I would not recomend the new XTR. It seems a bit on the fragile side.
The brake caliper is sweet. Extreamly light and very good braking but again, I would not use it for anyting other then xc. Although we are in the works of putting a set on my road bike.

I've kinda been out of the buying end of bikes for awhile, wow have things changed! Much more complicated now than it was even 4 or 5 years ago. The XTR's would be nice on my diamondback, but I think you guys are right they will be too light for a huck bike. Thanks for the help and patience and as soon as I get caught up on the new technology I will be a bigger help around here...
