Too old of tires???
Hi everyone. My basic question is, how old does a tire have to be before you throw it out? I don't mean worn out, I mean age wise. I was recently going through my old tires and came across a set of 1995 Specialized Storm Control tires . I only used them twice (both very muddy races, one in 95 one in 2000). The tread is in great shape, and the side walls look good, though a little dry. I'm debating using them for the Mudslinger bike race in Oregon, so what is the general opinion on using tires this old? Mount them on the rims or chuck 'em? Thanks for the help.

Might as well try 'em. I have an old Team Control(not as old as yours, maybe '96/'97) that lost it's shape a bit after being stored(not climate-controlled) for several years. Not sure what happened, but the inner diameter is actually too wide to fit a 26" rim anymore. Can't even get it seated, it just flops right off the rim. Never been used before, either. Good luck.
