Philly Mountainbiking

hey all,

I'm looking for ideas about where to ride. I'm lovin Whissahickon and Belmont Plateau but I need more trails. Any ideas about places within an hour from Center City? Appreciate the help.

Might be worth joining this club. Cost is minimal and I'm sure they have really great inside connections for some mb trails in your area:

Valley forge park has some trails, not the paved loop but some that go through the woods. Of course an hour from center city gets you about 15 miles away, right. French Creek state park, near the morgantown exit of the pa turnpike has some good trails, that might be 1.5 hours.

Hi,
I understand that the mountain bike trails branching off of the Forbidden Drive (Upper Wissahickon Drive, near Fairmount Park) are liked by many. You'll need a permit to use the branch trails.

i ride there all the time with no permit. Therers tons of trails there have u tried them all. Theones on the far side of the river are really good. The side opposite of the gravel path.

I'm relatively new to MTB'ing and have never biked up at Wissahickon (although I've been meaning to get up there) but there are quite a few trails to ride near Brandywine Creek State Park and Woodlawn Nature Preserve in Wilmington (about 4 miles from me). This area is about 35 minutes from Philly too. Let me know if you'd like a more detailed description and/or help finding the trailheads.

I've pretty much been on every trail from Lincoln drive past Bell's Mill road to the end of the park, on both sides of the river. It's really a great place. No permit needed.

French creek is great. There are a lot of trails and I have gotten lost there before. Find some trail maps if you can. Its definitely worth the drive and you can check out some other things in the area, like st. peters village, just east on rt 23, which also has some trails, and the creek is full of boulders that you can climb on.

Has anyone else ridden by the Delaware river (where Girard meets with the river) back behind some of the industrial buildings? Its where everyone rides their motorcycles and ATVs. I think its pretty fun.
