Disc brake adapter for non-disc frame?

I've got a 2000 (or 1999 i cant remember) Trek 4500 frame that doesn't have disc tabs in the rear. I was wondering if anybody knew whether any company makes adapters for non-disc frames?

there is a company called therapy components, or Brake Therapy or something like that, that makes adapters... i believe mx_599 has one on his Homegrown...

hehe...no, that was just me being anal. what you see there is a melted glue stick from a hot glue gun. the metal to metal tolerances are way closer than it appears. i was sort of just looking for added protection of any adventitious movement

chain cleaning is highly overated. *let me go through the trouble of removing it and slosh it around in a mt dew bottle in like a 20 step cleaning and lubing ritual only to get gritty again*

Disc adapter

Well it's true and nice brake theraphy as they suggested, how about the downside of this kind after you use it. especially when you had flat tire or sometimes when full out the whole rear tires for a reason.Sometimes minutes is very important while you in the trails. Can you guys who already have this kind of therapy can you pls.tell their nice story or worse nigntmare about this. Well guys I have simple suggestion when it comes to disc adapter. How about disc adapter fix to drop-out with single bolt or two. or adapter being fix to drop-out by single bolt and this long arm extended to V-brake mounting bolt. Its stiff and strong and no hazzle fulling out the tires. I know this b-coz I do this fabrication to a local bike groups. and they had 99.99% satisfied in this kind of disc adapter. Enjoy & safe ride.

Just giving you a hard time as usual. :)

CNC machines? Pfft, who needs 'em when you've got mx_599 with a dremel in his hand?

you remembered i did substantial dremeling?

yeah, i am a little hesitant to recommend these things to people because i did a LOT of work to make it happen. so much so, it wouldn't even have been practical to pay a shop either. i had to lace a special hub as well. it works great, but not for an inexperienced mechanic. i would probably recommend brake therapy to someone. but even that ones uses a special profile hub i believe. both are very comparable i think. both have EXCELLENT customer service as well.

now that all is said and done, i wouldn't use it for anything more than XC. so now i am kind of wanting to just retire the schwinn and get a bike that:
1) i can jump and not worry about it
2) has no sentimental value

--this should equal more fun!

If your Trek has the "Disc-O" tabs on it, you just need a bracket from Trek - part #210648 - That's the IS mount, there's a Hayes bracket as well but I don't know the number - (the picture is of a Gary Fisher, but it's the same system)

that looks pretty good. but the dual Shark Fins are amusing...

boyet 04-27-06 05:00 PM

About the amazing shark fin, Well that's the way my customer desired. maybe the chain sometimes slap underneath the tube. About your Gary Fisher frame as you can see theirs a existing two small hole size(5mm) at the upper drop-out, It just to enlarge it to fit 6mm bolt of disc adapter. The holes will not compromise the strenght of the tabs as they say. Almost frame tabs comes with single or two holes from the factory. As my experience for 8 years in making this adapter I don't hear feedback of my client that their customized adapter or their tab rip off. either in XC ride or Downhill rides.
