Rock Shox Quadra 21R Spring Options?

Hope you can help. The old bike (Rockhopper A1 Comp) has a Rock Shox Quadra 21R fork on it (bike is in super condition - the Girlfriend's ride now). However the elastomer bumpers in the fork are starting to degrade. I always meant to upgrade to spring replacements, but you know how it is. Now that the upgrade needs to be made... I can't find any springs. White Brothers used to make replacements... but don't seem to anymore. Anyone have any suggestions where I can find replacement springs? Or have a pair sitting in a box in your basement? Do you know if there are some Judy model replacement springs that would fit? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Let me know if you find any.

I have the same fork on my wife's old mtn bike. This bike has a child seat on the back and we use it to take our 2.5 year old son for rides.

I noticed that the fork was no longer working, I took it apart and found my elastomers were either stiff, or crumbling apart. Also, one of the stanctions is frozen stiff. I've saturated it with penetrating solution, and it's still stuck.

I looked into getting some new internals, but found that I could get a new fork for the cost of just the parts. Luckily, I had someone give me their old fork, it's a Jett Long Travel, but for what we're using it for, it's perfect.

Rock Shox no longer produces parts for forks older than 2000. I can get a hold of Total Air cartridges for that fork, but some mail order companies can sell you a fork for less than the cartridges.

Hey Kustomz,
I checked it there is nothing there for the Quadra 21R, or did I miss it?

Mountain Speed Multi-Pro Springs SALE!!!
Fits all Rockshox Judy C/XC/SL/DH/T2/Jett (95-99). Made by Eibach (Indy 500 suspension Guru's) the best Judy hop up you could ever buy! Three stage spring set up offers way better tuning than any other Judy compatible spring. Spring rates-Soft-Medium 192g

Anyone know if these would fit the quadra 21R? If so, it is an awesome sale price and would be perfect!

Thanks for the suggestions!

How do the quadra 21r and the judy cartridge differ? The quadra is basically a skewer with the poly bushing donuts on the skewer. Rubber shishkabob (sp?). The replacement springs really just have to be the right length and diameter (barring spring rates, rebound, etc - I would assume those would be covered by the fact they are shock springs). In theory, slide off the poly bushings and slide on the spring. Maybe?

Sorry, I figured they were all based on the Judy in that vintage.

Well the springs the judy series and the Quadra 21R are the same length 7". however the inside diameter of the sliders are different. The Quadra and Indy forks are Mag series with differnt guts. Mountain Speed (speed springs) for Judy forks simply fit on top of the cartridge or cartridges if you run a DH model. For the Indy series or Quadra they replace the guts entirely.

Check the next page; https://cambriabike.com/forks&shock/f...sories-pg2.htm
and about half way down they show, Total Air Cartridge kits. If the Quadra is similar to any other model, one of these systems may work. I would call Cambria or a Rock Shox expert and find out.

My question:

Hello

I was hoping that you could help me. I'm looking for replacement springs for my Rock Shox Quadra 21R fork. I see that you have Mountain Speed Multi-Pro Springs that fit older Rock Shox forks (Judy's, Indy's). I am wondering if any of those springs will fit the Quadra 21R?

Cambria Bike's answer:

No, they will only fit what they say they will fit. You might want to consider a Judy TT for $59.

OK good you got two confirmations on your question then. I would stay away from the Judy TT IMHO.

I have an old Quadra Q21R that I'm seriously considering converting to a lamp. Really.

It was my first suspension fork but I don't even have a sentimental attachment to it. The elastomer springs were OK, though they quit functioning in cold weather. The big problem with the fork was a lack of rebound damping. On a big hit the darn thing would just about launch you like a catapult

I don't know if replacement springs are available for the Quadra. Even if they are, you might consider buying a new fork instead. Unless the new spring kit includes some kind of rebound damping, the money might better be spent on a close-out of a more modern fork.

Any thoughts on an inexpensive fork... say under $125.00? I'm a rather portly fellow so the rebound of the Q21 never affected me :-) but the disintegated bumpers HAVE affected the fork.
I don't do downhill... lots of cross country and touring with high pressure slicks.

Just bought the last Total Air cartridge, so they say, from the Englund Air/Eko Sport folks for the Rock Shox Q21. I don't like having to add air every week or so, and will probably sell the Q21 and the Air cartridge sometime soon . . . when time allows. Anyone reading this interested in trying this Q21 fork upgrade, say the word and I will work out a deal with you! Cost me $97 .. would sell for 1/2 of that (the high cost of trying something new!)

Little late but not never

Just incase someone is wanting to revive what they have. I have a '95 Quadra 21R. Elastomers were shot. Got a piece of 1" neoprene rubber from the local rubber house. A 1" hole saw with a shimmed 3/16" pilot bit. Drilled as many pieces as needed. Also had to make an .085" shim (with the neoprene rubber or teflon sheet) for each full size plug. Works great so far.

I rebuilt 2 Marzocchi Bomber3 forks using urethane rods from a company called Acrotech out of MN. If they don't have in stock they will do a run. They have both solid and hollow rods

Just cut to length from the 48" rods I ordered and was also able to order two rods in different compounds to tune the old forks.

DId you just pull out the old elastormers and measure what you needed with a caliper? Does the urathane compress at all or did it turn it into more of a rigid bike? I have an old quadra r21 that i need to service and i am afraid to pull it apart for fear of what i might find This sounds like an option. DId you have a cut the rods yourself and drill out the centers? I am in MN so i am going to check into this.

I order two versions of the urethane (one in yellow which is soft and one in black which is firmer). These are hollow tubes.

The original ones had fallen apart. I measured using a small tape measure to measure free space in the fork. Extended for and removed cap and a spring that was part of the fork. measure length of these items the measure top of tube to bottom. Subtracted the cap and spring to get free space. Used that length to cut the urethane to length.
