New (used) bike question
Hello all,
I'm on the hunt for a new bike as mine was stolen last weekend. Let's not dwell on this much longer, the season is here and I want to put the bad behind! I happen to have a huge "Bike Swap" coming up on saturday at all the local shops in my town (this was really cool to find out) and happen to have been talking to someone who knows about a very well kept Rocky Mountain Slayer, year 2002. I know the rear end had a recall at one point, but if this one has the replacement (beefier from later model year) and shows no signs of true abuse, what do you all think a fair price would be. http://www.epinions.com/bicycles_200...ay_~full_specs Sadly I'm not sure the exact specs on this ride as things might have come and gone over time (did i mention the owner actually worked at a bike shop??) but found this link to help shed some light. Any owners around here also? I did a fourm search, but didn't see much on reviews. Thanks for the read Tspin |
Oh come on, there must be one person with some input on this bike~!

What it is worth is basicly what seller is willing to sell it for and what you are willing to pay. One way to get a good idea is to search ebay for completed auctions.
In my opinion the bike is worth about $500 - $700. The way my formula (accurate or not) works is first year take off 50% of value. After that take off 25% per year. 2002 - new $2450 2003 - $1,225 2004 - $920 2005 - $690 2006 - $520 |

This bike in particular was owned by a bike shop employee. Was he also a racer? Most shop employees I know abuse their bikes on a pretty regular basis. |
Yea, I didn't actually get to talk to the owner, he had left for the day, so i'm hoping to catch him at the shop tonight. If he raced it I'll be going lower on cost, rumor has it the bike is 800-850 in range. I'm not sure how much barter is allowed at these things, but it seemed like a deal if it was in great shape (and had the rear section replaced
