motobecane bikes?
 

I have never heard of the brand before but came across the motobecane FLY Team bike, and became very interested. Lightweight, and very good components (as far as I could tell) and reasonably priced.

What do you you guys think of their bikes, specifiacally the FLY team?,

the other bike I am interested in right now would be a cheaper stumpjumper, so that would probably be its competition

i almost got one of those but passed it up. i have only seen them in one shop i have been to

I have one of their lower end bikes, the 400HT. I dont have many complaints, but I wish I would have gotten something else. I would go with the specialized.

its really tempting, for the price there is now way I could see myself ending up with a different 20 lb bike.

Buying a stumpjumper is a sure bet, but I doubt it will ever be that light. On the other hand, im guessing the motobecane is not the type of bike for jumps/drops etc, while I probably wouldnt think twice about it with a stumpjumper...

Edit: an Ellsworth Enlightenment looks like a very nice bike also. Plus its under 1k, and probably a little more willing to take some abuse than the motobecane,

For just the frame.

It did look to good to be true, no wonder I could not find any specs on the bike components.

The specs on that bike are amazing for 1595$ It seems too good to be true.

Normally you can't get those kind of components on a 1500 dollar bike.

That is what I am thinking.

Im sure it weighs over 25 lbs, but its cheap and could handle anything that I would ever throw at it. Lockout front and rear suspension on the handle bar would be convient. And if I ever get into DH (I plan on hitting up the local ski resort a few times this summer), I would not doubt the bike would be up to the task.

I bought one of the Fly Team bikes last year and overall it is a nice bike for the money. Only two bad things I can say about it is, I have put a couple of dents in it without hitting anything very hard, and who ever put the bottom bracket in cross threaded it, luckily the threads on the bottom bracket got screwed up and not the threads on the frame so it wasn't too big of a deal.

There seems to be a flood of people on the forums asking about these bikes with regularity. If anyone actually did a search on the forums, they'd see this issue discussed to death. As it is, this post is dangerously close to several other examples of astroturfing that are plaguing the single speed forum.

After reading some of the previous posts, im getting the impression that the fly team is not a bike that likes to be abused. A full blown race bike is probably not for me anyways, when the trail gets technical I want to be worring about myself, not the bike, lol.

That FS fantom still looks tempting, but at that price, I could probably find a lightly used FS stumpjumper on ebay.

Or stick with a hardtail stumpjumper. I guess I still need to decide exactly what im looking for.

I bought one about a month ago and really like it. The components are fantastic for the price..... it has a cheap clear coat that allows you to peel the cheap looking motobecane decals right off.... the only thing cheap about the bike are the decals....... you can't go wrong with it if you are looking for a fast mountain bike. It is almost like a cyclocross / mountain bike hybrid..... it's built for speed. The full XTR components, Carbon Crank, and the other components are worth $1600 by themself..... the frame is solid and light.

I looked into these bikes myself, after a lot of research, my conclusion was that the frame is pretty much crap (NOT made by Motobecane, they no longer make bikes), but the components are still worth the price.

I wanted a good deal but I also wanted a good bike that could take some abuse. I ended up with the Woodstock 505 and am very happy. The only thing is it's a little on the heavy side (right around 30 lbs), but other than that it's a great, well built bike. Check out the reviews on mtbr.com. For me it was between the Woodstock and the Ibex Trophy 770, both of which got good reviews and seem to be well made.
