just got a new trek 4300, what can it handle?
first let me say im only 14, and i had to save up for a year to buy this bike, and well i finally got it and i one uped my friend and got disk, (his bike is in the shop now getting them on, after he saw mine ) so anyways we do alot of crazy stuff on our bikes, and we have gone off some big jumps. i would like to know from all you experts out there, how much abuse this bike can take? ive taken it off a 10 foot jump(9.8 to be exact because we just HAD to measure it) and it was a big gravel hill, so we did it a few times and just got as much speed as possible, ramped up it, then bunny hopped to get as high as we could, then cam back 10 feet to the ground and landed, or usually crashed, and it was lots of fun, even though i needed 4 stiches on my elbow. so if i keep abusing my brand new bike like this what will happen if anything?
p.s. when it gets warmer out theres about a 3 foot dirt ramp, that launches you off into a creek by the trails, and plumits you down into the creek about 6 or 7 feet. the water is only about a foot to a foot and a half deep, deeper in some spaces off to the sides, there are lots of big rocks, and algea, i was wondering if it would be safe to go off of this, even though i dont have clip in cleats or special shoes? would i slid off my pedals? thanks

Yeah, the 4300 is meant for entry-level XC stuff. Shoot, even I broke the original fork on my 4300 with "just" XC riding. Don't be too surprised if your fork breaks early on with the FR/DJ stuff.
Good to see you riding though. Everyone's gotta start somewhere; the 4300 is where I started off too. Ride hard

yeah what gwhunt said. i'd say the manufacturer's warranty voided the moment you did that jump, so further 10ft drops are at your own risk. i wouldn't advise it, since there's no similar warranty on the parts that make up your body.

thanks "gmoney" you "gangster" for ruining my thread of just asking a few quick questions. and how did the forum go to little kids like me? when kids like i have the extreme disire to succeed and i spend 12 months of hard earned mopney cutting grass and raking leaves to buy a bike that i can have fun on and go crazy like a kid would, while still at the same time keeping in shape for track and soccer. when kids my age want to do fun stuff and they dont care what the risks are, well they go ahead and do it and mess themselfs up, but for the ones that wanna do really crazy stuff but keep in mind the risks, they come and evaluate the jump first, and if it still looks iffy, they find a resource such as this to ask experts on how to do it. as far as what i have read from you so far, your the most unexperteded person, i am more mature than you, and you try to act cool by being gangster, so you go ahead and go smoke some pot or whatever, and ruin your life. ill stay here and learn more and more about mt biking so i can keep a good life. i think this fits the forum: gmoney, go take a hike. and dont forget the trailmix *****

Looks to me like Help can stand on his own! Good for you for not dealing with any crap you don't want to deal with. Are you sure you're a kid********** Enjoy your bike and wear a helmet!!

Throw the stick!!!!
Well like others have said the bike isn't exactly intended for your riding style. It will probably hold up for a while but one day it is going to give. When that happens there is a good chance you will get hurt. Just keep that in mind and be careful. Personally I would keep the bike out of the creek. Water generally isn't the best thing for your bike so unless you don't mind buying new bottom brackets and hubs avoid creeks as much as possible.
As for gmoney just ignore him, that's what everyone else tries to do.

i mean who of all people saves money for a year and then goes and launches themselves and their bike of of a "10+" drop, esp. when its a xc ride, i mean correct me if im wrong but your post sounded as much out of place as micheal jackson hanging out at the retirement home for fun
