First New Bike in Years

I havent purchased a new bike since the Jamis Aurora was a trail bike...and that was a while ago

Im looking to get back into trail riding, with some downhill when I get to the hills. Im probably looking for a full suspension bike and im looking to spend around 1k. I want a bike I can grow into a little bit so I want something just above entry level. I was looking at the Jamis Dakar Sport seems to look ok but im not to fimiliar with bikes anymore. What else would be good options for me to look into within this price range???

The dakota comp looks to be in about the same price range and comes with some pretty nice components from the factory. I have heard that they are good bikes but have never ridden one. The others I have ridden but I must admit that I am A specialized fan. But the Jamis looks like a damn nice bike for the money if the frame is as good as I've heard. Good luck

I own a custom 2003 Daker and , absolutely love it . In 2004 Jamis changed the rear suspension design (no more Horst Link) and from the reviews I've read , it's now a piece of poo . I'd go check out the Specialized FSR + Stumpjumper models .

I looked into the Norco and the only dealer in NY is in either brooklyn or the bronx. Both of which are 6-7 hours from me.

I've eliminated the Cannondale just because the price is that much more. Right now out of what I've had time to look at and ride I like the Specialized FSR XCcomp, and the Jamis XLT 1.0.

Ive yet to look at Trek, GT, Diamondback. I can only get to one shop at a time
