Weird Disc Problem...

I've got a rear Hayes Sole hydraulic disc, but something seems to have happened to it...

The brake lever nearly touches the grips before there is any effect, and even then the braking power isn't brilliant. The pads are relativly new and the pad adjustment screws (that move the pads closer to the disc) are as close as possible (one of them is fully tightened)...

Does it need bled or am i missing something??

Thanks in advance :)

Sounds like it just needs bled to me.

yep the fluid probably got some air in, just need to bleed the air out and you will be back to new.

nice one... thanks guys :)

i have a set of hayes hydraulics too. i had a similar issue with the rear. it turned out to be an adjustment screw on the brake lever itself. it adjusts where the lever sits relative to your handlebars. it kept loosening and therefore the lever would hit my grip before giving any braking power. my guy at the lbs applied some locktite to the screw and it has been fine since.

oooo.... can you tell me what screw you mean - is it the reach adjustment one?? Would like to check to make sure...

yes, the reach adjustment one. i thought it was a problem with the hydraulic fluid as well. but, i guess the issue wth the reach adjustment screw is a common one on their brakes. might be worth checking before bleeding the entire line.

ill check it out - thanks :)

no problem. otherwise, just ride without the rear brake. do you REALLY need it?
