The light clicked on today
The light clicked on today for my manuals. I was able to get the front end up, but couldn't keep it going for long. I had problems with the leg pushing motion, but today, I finally got it. It was just like a light clicked on. I love it.
Although, I got cocky, I manaualed for about 50 feet, and then fell backwards because my ****ty rear brake, and landed on my still turning rear wheel. My nuts were nearly crushed. I was on the ground for nearly half an hour moaning. That was the worst sackege I've ever had!

Congrats, and sucks about the nut smashing.
I can't manual at all on my mountain bike, but I try on my BMX whenever I ride - I don't run brakes on it so I probably won't smash my nuts by grabbing the brakes and slipping off anyway ;p

Ya, I've been working on manuals on my BMX for a while. Then I got on myh steelhead and landed right on my tailbone when I pulled up.
It sucked.

I had problems with the leg pushing motion
I think thats actually considered a "wheele" if thats the case, standing on bike makes it a manual ^^
I tried some of this on my lil' bros bmx haro if I shifted my weight back I can wheele it some but its way to small for me and its heavy as heck.
I can actually do it easier on the mountian bikes I have been riding at the LBS.

I'm just trying to figure out how to wheelie. I can wheelie about maybe 6 pedal turns before It comes down. What I don't understand is how to wheelie when your going fast, or is that a manual. I can only do it when I'm going slow, and I pedal kick while pulling up on the handle bars to bring the front end up.

A manual is a wheelie without pedaling. Some wheelies are sitting or standing. A manual is always standing.

I've seen a no-footed manual down a kinked ledge, which was obviously sitting down. Nuts. (Animal bikes - Can I Eat video)
NoF3ar: I learned wheelies in low gear, sitting down, without using the brake, and then progressed to a higher gear, and feathering the brake when I had to. I'm out of practice now, but I was able to get about 3-400 feet. Not amazingly far, but decent. You need to find your balance point and try to keep it for a reasonable distance without brakes (say 50 feet, when you can do that most of the time you should go to a little higher gear and start using brakes a little)
