Were centerpull brake bosses the same as v-brake bosses?

I'm in the process of rebuilding my old bike so my brother can ride and so I have a backup bike for whenever I may need it, so, the parts on it are decent so I just wanted to get new brakes and of course a frame (and maybe some cranks and bb), I was thinking of a Peugeot Maxima 26, it seemed like a great deal for 96$, carbon chainstays and very light construction, since its not going to be beat I don't think that will be a problem, for the brakes I was thinking of some Deore Vs for some 20$ plus shifters and levers for whatever they cost, oh and I want a riser bar too (flatbars aren't really my thing), so for less than 200$ I could have a really nice backup bike. The only problem is that it currently has centerpull brakes (that's why I'm getting sidepull v brakes) and I'm wondering if centerpull and sidepull used the same bosses... did they? My bike is from before 1998, I know it is just because it has a 98 Indy SL fork but that was an upgrade.

If the bosses aren't the same... is there something I can do to put v-brakes on my bike? I seriously don't want centerpull, they never stopped me well and I don't want an insecure bike with crap brakes.

P.D: I would check myself but my new bike (in sig) doesn't have any brake bosses lol (thank god for disc brakes) so I can't really compare the bosses on my old bike to v-brake bosses.

First, by centerpull, you mean cantilever, right. Yes, the bosses are the same.
