Blisters and calluses... prevention, treatment, cures?
My once beautiful soft hands (lol) are now rough and hardened because of riding (mainly because of trials than other riding for obvious reasons) so what can I do about it, its a problem to me because it hurts and its uncomfortable but its also for aesthetic reasons (judge me all you want... I want to take care of my body
). What can I do to prevent blisters and calluses? Are well padded gloves enough, I used to have Specialized XC Long gloves which sucked but my Fox Sidewinder are coming soon but what can I do to cure the blisters and calluses, ice? soap and water? pumice (or other exfoliants)? grinding the calluses off? cream (the moisturizing kind)? ointment? Once I do get rid of the calluses and blisters what can I do to prevent any damage to the skin of the hand once the first sign of new blisters and calluses appear?
Hmm, any skin-care gurus (otherwise known as dermatologists lol) here to enlight me on the subject?

Well you should be putting lotion on daily like I do. Then your hands never get too dry.

Callouses will go away with time if you stop whatever is causing them.

About blisters from trials riding - I found two things that caused lots of blisters for me: too much padding in my gloves, and thin grips.
I don't really know why padded gloves don't work too well, but all the trials riders I ride with prefer thinner gloves (hebo's being the best, seconded by unpadded work gloves from home depot or mechanix)
About the grips - my hand just didn't fit right on them, I needed something thicker. ODI ruffian = perfect.

I feel your pain, when I was growing up my dad worked with a lot of pesticides and wierd chemicals. His hands got so dry he could make a fist and his knuckles would split and bleed.
as a result I'm pretty vigilant in skin care. I try to rub lotion on my hands and forearms at least once every other day. Also drink lots of water, being dehydrated is bad for skin too.
My wife does those parrafin dip things too, she says its really good for your skin. I do it so I can run around the house with wax gloves!!

Let those calluses develop, they will actually protect your hands.
If you keep getting blisters, you need better grips and better fitting gloves.

gezzz wow!!!!! Honestly come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My friends and I have frickin contestes to see who gets the biggest. And if you dont let them grow your hand will allways hurt from riding. If you can't take this then look into another sport, cuz there are probaly many more "injuries" down the road.

I don't care so I'm not going to fight you back lol but if no one is going to help me then I might as well abandon this topic, I found a full guide about calluses care on a www.trials-online.com

Contrary to what your manicurist might say ... callouses are good things. This is natures natural padding and will eventually rid you of your blisters if you will allow them to develop.
I suggest hammering. Go to the lumber yard, buy a couple of horses and a 2x12 than drive nails. That will get you some good callouses.
For the feet, I suggest not wearing shoes as much as possible. Join a martial arts class and then observe how tough your tenderfeet become.

Callouses are a solution, not a problem.
Granted, not all solutions are asethetically pleasing.
