bike helmet

Im looking for a helmet and not too worried about cost. I have a big head and need a XL helmet so my choices are limited. I dont really like the look of mountain helmets. I like the BMX style helmet like the Pro-Tec . What does everyone think?

thanks

the bmx helmets will be alot hotter than xc style helmets due to the fact that there are hardly any vents. However, the bmx style helmet will offer better protection in hard crashes due to it wrapping around more of your head. I have both types, depends whether i'm riding the trial or out dirt jumping or other aggressive riding

The Giro Xen has vents and extends lower on the back of the head so it's a decent compromise in terms of protection and ventilation. Not sure about sizing for you, though.

I have the Xen and am very happy with it.

I know nothing of bmx helmets, but for xc helmets, specialized seem to fit my big melon (to house my giant brain ofcourse ) much better than anything else

Your best bet would be to just go try on some helmets to see how you like the fit and how you like the look.

I "doctored" the vents on my BMX helmet to have the same air flow direction as my XC helmets. its not as venting as my Tbone but much better than it used to be without losing the safety of coverage. I just flred them out a little like the good XC helmets.
its the most comfortable helmet I have but my Tbone is a close second, especially since putting BMX helmet type pads with coolmax outer instead of the skinny ones that came with it and with temps going into the 90s and humidity to match I need the extra ventilation of the LG Tbone.
I have a big head from all the bumps and bangs, not the big brain like some others. just full of rocks and the Tbone fits fine

There is a few helments I have been looking into. (The Specialized I am not looking at)

1) Fox Rampage Full Face - Removable Padding For Easy Washing.
2) Giro Remedy Full Face - Fiberglass akes it nice and light.
3) Specialized Deviant Full Face - Very light, Very well ventalated

I second the Giro Xen for a good cross country helmet.

I've got a Trek Anthem Elite (not the recalled one) and I love it. I got it for $60 (regularly 100) probably just because of the recall on the other anthem.

I have a big head too and I use LG helmet. Only thing I don't like about it is that I can't detach straps and wash them.

If you are considering the Carbon Specialized then why not a Troy Lee Designs?

I've got a Fox Pro Pilot (fiberglass) and it's a great helmet, so I'd vote for the Fox.
