my front wheel is gone. i forgot to lock the wheel with a chain as well as the frame, so it's my fault. still sucks though.

You could get a Singletrack wheel pretty cheap at your LBS.

I'll be treating myself to a nice wheelset later this year and have been researching this. Over at MTBR.com there is a wheelbuilder that has a fantastic feedback and will build for you. You can only buy wheelsets from him by calling first, having a conversation with the wheelbuilder and you then get it.

One of the big selling points is that he uses off the shelf components and nothing that is weird and out there.

Anyway, I just realized I didn't say who the wheelbuilder is. It's "Speed Dream Wheel Set" and here's the MTBR.com review page. https://mtbr.com/reviews/Wheelset/product_23649.shtml

mmm, peter white, *drooool*
Peter white warrants his wheels true for life.
He's well known for building some of the best wheels in the world and will give you anything from LX to King hubs at your price point based on your riding style and weight.

So that still goes on? I figured out in 1974 that there is always ONE less front wheel than there are bikes in any given area.... but I had to take my bike fron SoHo NYC all the way to 96th street on the subway, without a front wheel, to just get my transportation back!

i found a wheel on craiglist in my area.

it reads: "off a trek"

"25 dollars for wheel, helmet, and lock"

so i emailed him, and i asked if i could have it for 20. he said, "yeah sure, you can have the wheel and the helmet for 20"

so i'm kinda thinking to myself... could this be my wheel? it was posted 4 hours after mine got stolen.

so, i asked for some specs. he said, "it's a 23 inch wheel, i'm not sure about the hubs and stuff because i'm not a bike expert" (none of this is verbatim, i'm just typing what i remember. all to the same effect though)

so anyway, i asked him for some close up pics of the wheel so that i can determine if it will fit my bike.

i'll update once he sends me closeups. truthfully, i'd rather it be some other wheel, because if i recognize it as mine, i'm going to his house to "purchase" it, and i'm going to break his face.

if thats your wheel I would get the athorities on him, no need to get yourself in trouble. does your bike use a 23" wheel?

Im sorry to hear man, I dont know what I would do if I lost or had anything broken on my bike at this point since I just got it im so freakin broke.

My favorite wheel builder is still Mike Garcia over at Odds and Endos. His builds are as nice as anyone's and his prices are very reasonable.

Sounds more like a case of the seller not knowing what to measure. I'm sure it's a 26" MTB wheel and the guys only measuing the rim..

I would almost guarantee that's your wheel. Ask for a couple closeup pics, then if it's yours, take the police with you to purchase it.

turns out it's not my wheel.

he said it's off a trek 3500 (2005).

that will work with my trek bruiser 1 (2005) right?
