Has anyone here tried Ruthless Cycle?
 

in particular a switchblade or big Toe...see pics.
i have been looking for a fsr/downhill bike of my own the past few months(borrowed a friends now and then) and i primarily do road but i am ready to buy. These guys at bicycle planet build the Ruthless.... and from what i see some of their team are winning the canada cup... and national racing at elite levels with their product.
i don't expect to get that good.. lol.. but i have been looking for a bike.. that will fill all my needs..lol.. no dirty thoughts...
the shop is 30 minutes from me in my old town of aurora...
so do i get this bike.. never having seen any reviews til i found this page.

Just my honest opinion, the frame reminds me of a Trek Diesel.

Just another one of them generic single pivot frames again....nothin special.

You do not plan on using it on the road do you?

I know a couple guys that race out here that ride that bike. They seem to like it. It should work fine for you. For dh it will be a good bike but do not expect to be pedaling up hill with that single piviot design other wise you will soon be intoduced to BOB in a big way.

One suggestion since it is a single piviot is to swap out the Fox shock for a Currnut or 5th Elemement. If all you will be doing is dh the Fox will work fine but if plan on hucking it off drops or jumping the other two shocks will be much better. You could also look into the new Stratos "El Jefe" rear shock.

Other then that it is a good bike and you will be happy with it.

Ok, two other thoughts. Since you are a roadie, do not size the bike like you would a road bike. If your trails are tight technical single track get a smaller size frame (ie, if an xl frame is what you would normaly ride get a lg and so forth) it will handle better. if your trails are more of a flat high speed terrain get the size that fits right (ie, if you fit an xl frame get the xl frame).

Also, if you are not expecting to be an expert/pro racer you may also want to swap out the Dorado for either a Marzocchi Super-T or a RockShox Boxxer. It will bring the price of the bike down some and they are much easier to set up. Granted you will not have the cool carbon fork but do you really need it.

sorry if the bike disappoints anyone.. i know its not Trek or S.C. or janis or any other big name..
the bike i was looking at is about 3,000.00 hoping that they will be at the bike show in Toronto the end of Feb so i can work on the price a little bit.
the owner and maker of Ruthless is a pretty nice guy..and he is close enough to advise and uprade.. i was looking at a k2 disco monkey and he would have ordered it for me..but asked me to check out what he had first.. some G.F sugars.
like i said i am a roadie and want to mtn bike...i am finding that i can get more out of one here where i live.
now that i admitted to being ignorant on mtn biking ;) i will tell you that the guys who are riding a ruthless especially 20 yr old Rod Smit have done well in both the Canada Cup and the easterns.. ... maybe i am easily impressed...

i know about the switchblade.. the only reviews i could find on it were in the uk lol
the guy can custom the bike.. and i will keep your suggestions in mind when i talk to him... may just go up there next weekend instead of waiting for the bike show.. he is pretty cool and hopefully he can hook me up with someone with patience for a newbie who asks.tons of questions.

almost forgot... i never got to try one..yet.. but i would need a small frame.. i am 117 lbs and 5'4. that is why i looked at the disco monkey first.. i would be able to get up hill as well as down hill :)

That bike seems way over the top for a newbie to mtn biking. Coming from a roadie background, I would guess you'd be more into XC type riding/racing, not freeriding and DH. I may be wrong!

If into just riding some single track trails, I'd stick with a lighter XC type bike. If you want full suspension stick with a bike like the Gary Fisher Sugar, Trek Fuel 90, Santa Cruz Superlight, ....etc.

The bike in the pic is a huge heavy FR rig for hucking and making drops. It'll kill you to pedal that thing for an afternoon!
