slicks for mountain bike.
 

I'd like to bring my mountain bike onto the road and as a result I'd like to buy so road slicks for it. I'm not sure what is out there. I am looking for something no too expensive, just enough to get the job done. Suggestions?

If you want reeeallly cheap, I bought one at, (dare I say it), Wally-World for about 10 bucks. I just needed one for the back for my trainer. It's a heavy tire though. Don't know the weight exactly but if it's not an issue, it gets the job done.

After searching all of last week for new skins for the Mrs. and I... I came up with a solution that worked great for us... but it's kind of spendy (we went with it though) For you I'd suggest the Tom Ritcheys... I think Performance has them or REI... just search the big name online places and you'll find them... for that matter just search the big name places fo their clearance/on sale stuff. Specialized has the schnazzy Nimbus armadillo for $20.00. I've seen band name slicks for around $10.00 though.

I just bought a set of Michelin Jet's.... they should be here soon. While they're not a road slick, I think they're going to work great for commuting/hardpack that I ride in so often.

Have a look at the Mountain Equipment Co-op online catalogue www.mec.ca for their selection of Mtb slicks. Not sure if they opened a store in Montreal yet, but they have a mail order service and stores in Ottawa and Toronto if you ever get to those cities. I have found their prices better then my LBS and their return policy is excellent.

Probably more than you want to spend, but the Continental Grand Prix is by far the best slick I've tried. They have great grip in all conditions, wear slowly, and are very light...right around 200 grams, I think.

I reccomend the Specialized Nimbus EX's. They roll fast have decent grip and (from what I've seen and heard) they last bloody well forever, making them perfect as a commuter tire.
