Is my bike worth racing?
 

tell me if you think my bike is capable of doing some begginer races. I have a 03 Giant Iguana and these are the things i have upgraded on it.

Not upgraded: Deore deraliurs, seatpost, stem, handlebar,brakes

Upgraded: Marzocchi mx comp fork, welgo 880 clipless pedals, Mavic crossroc tubeless rims, RF prodigy xc isis crank with new BB. and panaracer fire xc pro ust

You could race beginner on a Wal Mart bike...

Its all about the rider IMHO.

seriously, any bike can be raced..

But not to give a rethorical response i'd say your bike is definately raceable. You've replaced nisr everything that you need and it's prpbably pretty light by now.

There are people the do some races on freeride bikes depending on terrain. If you have the skills you can win some xc races on a SS bike :)

If you want to race go for it. As long as your bike is in good working order you will have fun. Then, if you decide to really get into racing, you can then start thinking about upgrading to a more race oriented bike.

If it has 2 wheels, pedals and a handlebar, then yes, it is good to race!

Mountainbike racing is veerryyy relaxed in the lower classes. I think people get the idea that they are like road races. They are like a tribe that comes together around one thing. Ride mountainbikes. I'm going to race my mtnbike in a couple of weeks. I just got done cleaning the drivetrain. It's like an 8-9 year old mtn softride. You know the one with the fiberglass beam the seat sits on. It was voted one of the worst mtnbikes of all time. I am getting a ride to the race ( in another state ) with some mtnbike club members. I hope we get along so I can go along all season. If I can do it so can you!

Oh yeah, a frame would be nice too. :D

In the races I've been in, you will see everything from Huffy's to the $5,000 22 lb rigs. There's even this one dude I usually see who wears an old football helmet with cow horns glued on the sides, and he's scary fast!

Go and try a race, you will see. Especially the 2 day events, there's a very casual atmosphere and everybody's welcome in most circles. There are the gadget people (I've been accused of being one of those), but even us groupo freaks are casual to any biker. It's not at all like crit type road races where the tension is always high...

Race it!

You've upgraded the 2 most important things. . . wheels and fork.

You can be competitive in the beginer class with your bike. If you're not, don't blame the bike.

Absolutely race it! I was atop a much lesser steed in my 1st race, and did well and had a great time. A few words of advice:

- Check EVERYTHING before the race
- TEST everything before the race
- Pedal hard and have a fun time!

Yeah, go race it. You've got some butterfly's before your first race regardless what bike you own or how prepared you are. I'd strongly suggest pre-riding the course the weekend before or the day before. That'll keep the trail fresh in your mind as to what's next and what to expect. Go for it. Racing's a lot of fun as long as you keep it fun!

I guess you would look really good placing well in the Beginner catagory, on a lesser bike than not placing as well on a real hot bike!!
But remember, leave nothing on the course, come home spent, wasted, exhausted, fall over at the finish line panting log a dog on a hot august day, and you cant say "I could have....."
