05 hardrock conversion?
 

I bought an 05' hardrock sport and im having some problems with my whole gear set up. I'm wondering if anyone has try'd to switch it to single speed, if it's possible? Also if anyone knows what the max travel you can get on the forks is, befor it's got to much of a lean?

Hey I use to have a hardrock myself with 150mm of travel and loved it!! If your into the whole hardtail fr or dj get 130mm or 150mm for that frame it works great.

As for going single speed it will not work because it has vertical dropouts opposed to horizantal drops witch allows you to move the wheel back to adjust chain tension. But it is possible, and to do this you will have to buy a chain tensioner.

I have an 05 hardrock that has gone through about 5 builds, so I am pretty familiar with what its capable of. The best fork choice would be about 100mm. I've ridden from 80mm to 200mm on it and the best setup for trail is four inches 100mm. the 888 was a bit extreme and the 90mm sherman jumper wasn't quite enough. the single speed issue is easily conquered, you buy a tensioner that bolts to the der hanger to keep tension, or if you use a kool chain with a half link, you can run it w/o the tensioner on the 17 in frame. they made a single speed version of the bike in 05, so you can buy the parts anywhere.

I have a HR SS 15",if you run a 32/18 gear setup you can do it without the tensioner. I run a 130mm Marz DJ and it feels really good with that setup. I like it better than a 100mm fork.

200mm on a hardrock... what the hell? maybe a morphine but please not a hardrock thats just rediculous

im pretty damn sure that guy meant 100mm.... well at least i hope so!!:eek:
