Parts question for upgrade
So I have this '98 hardrock that Ive had for quite a while...well...since it was new. So it sat for a long time, and ive recently gotten it out, gotten necessary maintenance done on it, and now was looking to upgrade it. Im trying to ditch the grip shifters & upgrade to 8sp, so what I'm looking at buying are these. if anyone knows whether this will work please let me know.
SHIMANO ACERA rear Derailleur RD-M340 7/ 8 Spd
SRAM PG-830 MOUNTAIN BIKE CASSETTE 8 SPEED 11-32
SHIMANO V-Brake levers & Acera shifters (st-ef35-8)
Thanks!

Ive got a almost new set of V-brakes, Accerra shifters and the accera rear deralliuer. Came off my 07 Hardrock Sport. Dont know if you would want them but I could let em go for cheap. Got the stock handlebar and stem too.

I've got one of those 98's hanging around here somewhere - steel frame hardtail, right? My boys have upgraded it's components from time to time... I think it's current condition is 9 speed with XT stuff on it, so it's definately doable.
