Mountain biking in Calgary

Hey, for all the people on this board living in Calgary I was wondering if you could tell me about the COP. Do you know anything about Home Road. Do you have to pay to get inside COP (Canada Olympic Park) Have you ever heard of Home Road? Where are some good areas to go mtb in Calgary. Besides Nose Hill. Been there done that.

COP is a lot of fun. The DH run isn't too bad and then there is a lot of freeride trails set up west of the bobsled run. Also dirt jump area and a stunt/drop area but sometimes they get over-run by the kids camps. The chairlift is fast and you can get a lot of runs in. They're always building new stuff too so just explore. And you have to pay to ride COP.

By Home Road, I assume you mean Bowmont Park and Sideshow Bob. I personally think that Bowmont has some of the best in-the-city singletrack riding in Calgary. Sideshow Bob is along the steep wall behind the gravel pit...ride it going west as the other way is just a bunch of climbing...and partway along you end up at an area with some jumps/stunts. As for the rest of Bowmont, just go exploring, there is a bunch of fun singletrack.

Far west side of Fish Creek has some good singletrack, down past raven rocks. The only problem is that the bridges have been washed out for the whole year hopefully they fix them soon.

Most of the missing bridges are closer to Votier's Flats than Bebo Grove. If you start at Bebo, you can ride singletrack for a long time [90 minutes] before having to worry about a bridge. Even then, if you follow the south slope, there are places where you can ride across the creek, and people have started to build their own bridges. Also, pretty much all the steeps on the south side are intact. Tons o' fun!

It's funny that I live in Calgary yet have never ridden Fish Creek. The main reason is that I can get out to Bragg Creek/K-Country in the same amount or less time.

I have a bunch of pictures and video but nothing online right now. If you want to find some COP stuff, search around on Pinkbike.com. There is a strong Calgary showing there.

OK sweet I'll take a look there. Thanks. Is it worth driving out to or would my 3hours driving time be better spent driving out to Rocky Mountain House and riding the Canada Cup courses there?

If you're going to drive 3 hours, you may as well just drive 6 and go somewhere like Fernie...great riding there (www.crankfernie.com).
