So now that I've got the bike where the hell do I ride this thing?

It's not exactly a mountain bike. I'm going to drop the gearing probably to 36/16. Then I need to find some appropriate trails for a bike like this:

Anyone have any good recommendations for trails around northern california that aren't too steep or too technical, but are decently long?

Sorry, no recommendations. I just wanted to congratulate you on a beautiful bike!!!

Is the Il Pompino exclusively single-speed or can it be built up with road gear? What's the spacing between the rear drop out (road or mountain bike)?

Nice bike, been thikning of building up a CX bike and the Il Pompino came across my radar.

You should be able to handle technical descents just fine, albeit a bit slower than you would be on a "normal" MTB.

Rockville has a number of trails that you could tie together. Boggs is perfectly sutied for that kind of rig. If you're looking for buffer, tamer terrain Salmon Falls, Mt. Tam fireroads, China Camp, Joaquin Miller, Redwood Regional, Chabot, etc. are good bets.

It doesn't have a derailleur hangar, if that's whart you're asking. Of course, you can put road wheels/tires/everything else on it, but there's nowhere to put a rear derailleur.

Mine has 135mm mountain bike spacing. It's also available with 120mm track spacing.

maybe you could install an axle-mounted derailleur like a saint... lol...

is that even compatible??

On-one and planet-x are run by the same people. My frame actually has a planet-x branded seat clamp on it.

There's so nice fireroad/singletrack, not technical, that goes along Folsom Lake. Starts on the corner of Folsom/Auburn and Douglas.

Was there a few weeks ago. Its trashed. All sand. Soem jerks run races on it but can't be bothered to fix it.
Try the ridge trail out by auburn.
China Camp probably would be good on weekday, dunno about current condition as I stopped going there a few years ago cause it was like a traffic jam.

Did you go to the singletrack on the other side of the Granite Bay Boat Launch? I went there Thursday and it sure wasn't trashed...

I went to Rockville this afternoon cause it's close and I needed to try it out. I might make another thread with the whole ride report and pictures.
