Newbie Help......Disc's
I currently have some Rockshox Judy XL's, & was wondering how u tell which size disc u can run on them.
Im just wanting to get a really cheap disc 4 the front 4 the time being, & have found a Shimano Deore Front 160mm one for cheap............but how do i no it this will fit? ANy help would be great! Cheers |
No problem. All RS forks have ISO (International Standard Organization) mount on their forks. All disc systems are compatible with specific adapters. Some companies will supply an adapter for post mount, or will include them for larger size rotors.
If you're going inexpensive (notice I didn't say cheap), I'd look into Avid's. They are the easiest the install, adjust and they just plain WORK! Other brands (even Shimano) aren't quite as good. For a deal look up www.pricepoint.com or www.wheelworld.com . BTW, you realize you also need a new hub right? L8R & Welcome to the Forums! |
Cool, thanks for the reply! I didnt realise there was an ISO. Ill get ordering then!!!
I live in the UK, so those links rnt really relevant 2 me....but thanks a lot anyway m8! :) Ive found the Shimano's 2 b cheaper than the Avids at the moment. I no they wont b 2 good, but i will upgrade wen ive saved some coin, its just i aint got much atm :( & yeah, cheers, ive got sum DH wheels on the way with discs hubs. |
IS mounts measure 51mm eye-to-eye.
The Avids really are worth waiting for. Unless you want a disc brake just to impress people, you are better off with a good v-brake than a mediocre disc brake. |
Yeah, thats true............been reading a few reviews on the avids, & they do seem better!
|
Dont get the deore mechanicals. They are underpowered. Either keep with good v brakes or go hydro. Avid brakes may be good for US/Canadian customers but in the UK they are crap. They cost 130-140 dollars each!!!! in the UK ...so you are better off getting a complete hydro system with this kind of money.
|
math pal, you can get them for $130-$140 a SET if you know where to look.
|
Raiyn i agree as far as USA is concerned, however the uk market has by far more expensive prices even on online UK shops.
|
That's too bad. No reason to call them crap though.
|
They are crap as a buy not as a product.
