autumn riding

about that time of year, again. leaves are turning, you can see your breath in the air in the morning. the best rides of the year.

the happiest cyclist is the one with all the bugs in his teeth.

ride on?

ride on.

ed 09-17-06 12:20 PM

I was on the trails Friday and noticed how many leaves were covering the ground. A year ago I really hated it. I couldn't see the rocks/roots and couldn't get traction b/c the leaves slipped out from under my tires.

I'm growing up a bit (getting old) and enjoying the scenery more than the performance. I really do love Autumn riding.

Word.

fall rides are my favorite rides of the year. crisp, cool air. a paint by numbers tree cannopy to ride through. wildlife busy preparing for winter. i love it. and the best post ride apples. very awesome. happy trails to all. ride on!

DylanTremblay 09-17-06 01:03 PM

I love early morning fall rides! The only thing I hate is that I know within a month or 2 its gonna snow 2-3 feet :(

EJ123 09-17-06 01:21 PM

I like fall too. Spring isnt bad, but way to many spider webs.

WannaGetGood 09-17-06 04:01 PM

I still thin the best rides are in the summer. Perfect weather for us up here, and I am out of School. :)

DirtPedalerB 09-17-06 09:47 PM

I'd say I like summer better too.. nothing like riding a shady trail on a blazing hot day. plus it's daylight until like 8pm great for afterwork rides.

All the trails aren't full of fair weather riders on a 100 degree day. Sure you get tired a little quicker, but you get to drink more refreshing cool water.

EJ123 09-17-06 09:49 PM

Ah that's true. Im gunno miss having the sun go down at what 9 o clock. I remember last december it got dark at around 7. That's gunno be horrible o.o

Minesbroken 09-17-06 10:03 PM

Heck its dark at 7 now here lol. in december it will be dark by 5:30

Siu Blue Wind 09-17-06 10:09 PM

But it sure is the prettiest time. I don't mind riding in the dark. Even though I DID hit a car and cracked three ribs.....

Flak 09-17-06 10:12 PM

I think im going to ride in the winter. I mean, i ski in winter....why not ride?

Minesbroken 09-17-06 10:16 PM

I plan on it this year. got the face mask and the gloves, hat (that fits under helmet) But I do remember telling myself to get ski goggles for some reason last year...hmmm

Mountainclimber 09-18-06 01:39 AM

well its spring here and i love it much better than the cold.

wethepeople 09-18-06 01:51 AM

I love fall rides, out here we dont have any trees left to make the ground covered so it's not slippery. The air is nice and crisp and we dont have all the snobby scene riders out in the fall.

But it sucks getting dark early, it's getting dark around 7 now, and in the winter it's dark at around 4:30.

Awhhhh! Your not growing up, Those big Nevegal's are gripping better which allow you to enjoy the scenery more! But don't ask us to believe the former!:D

Bike Lover 09-18-06 06:52 AM

I enjoy fall too. Just a little crispness in the air and you feel comfortable without having to worry so much about fluids and electrolites.

The animals seem a little more relaxed now too. Yesterday on the trail, I saw a fawn and a doe. It was really cool. They were standing about 5 feet off the course and moved away as I approached, not running, not walking but moving at a moderate pace. It was great.

Can't wait for Fall riding!!! It's still 92 degrees F during the afternoon around here.

Fall and Winter are our preferred riding seasons.

aviatorsman 09-18-06 08:39 AM

i'm looking forward to a great fall of riding. just last night around 11pm my roomate and I went on a night ride on local trails and its so nice and cool out, you can actually see your breath! i love it.

kidcharlamagne 09-18-06 08:48 AM

I love the fall, but the state forest I love to ride at closes for bikers begining on October 1 for hunting season. I guess I'll have to find a new spot....

Yep ... Sat late afternoon ride was 96* and humid. The sad part is that actually felt cooler! A cold front went through yesterday though ... so mid hi 80's for next few days. I'm looking forward to some cooler rides. Though earlier sunsets are already curtailing mileage after work (7:30)

You don't want to ride in the dark around here. Alot of bad people. Drugies, gangs, already been attacked once, not going to try it agian.

Landspeed7 09-18-06 05:23 PM

Fall rides are the best, Im not a huge fan of wet leaves on uphill. narrow climbs though :)

here and there 09-18-06 07:23 PM

I ride year round here, but I prefer mountain biking in late spring/early summer. Nothing like a cool morning ride when everything is nice and green. Late summer/fall is bone dry and the goat heads are in full swing, ugh.

If you're using windows, you can find "special" characters using charmap.exe. You can type that on the command line or access it throught the Start menu at All Programs->Accesories->System Tools->Character Map.

Find the '°' symbol (easily accessible through the Symbol font), copy it and paste it into the web browser.
