today i test rode a marin san anselmo. it really isn't what i had planned on getting, but it was light, tight, and responsive on pavement and the packed dirt i took it on. i really wasn't planning on getting a hybrid, but i enjoyed the ride and it has the features i want (fork w/lockout, versatility for road/trails). it has kind of been my plan to get a mtn bike now and then a road bike later, because i plan to do both kinds of riding. any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated.

Id say if your going to be doing and real mountain biking, get a mountain bike! From what ive seen on here many will agree, a hybrid just doesnt have what it takes on a serious trail.
