I need opinions and help on hardrock!
Ok guys so i was just riding over some rocks today when all of a sudden my rear deraleur just snapped off I was like wtf, o well time for some aftermarket stuff.
So basically i am torn between making it a 8 speed or single speed. Sadly i do not know how to go about doing either. I know im gonna get a bashguard and a chain guide.
I neeeed opinions and help! if anyone can provide links or instruction that would be great.

You derailleur is porbaly still usable, maybe a little bent but just bend er back. You probally only need to buy a new derailleur hanger for like $10.
And I'm guessing its a 9 speed in back...why would you want to get a 8 speed?

Its a 8 speed in back and i wans thinking of jsut replacing it but then im probably just going to have to keep replacing it the way i ride. I am seriously considering single speed. Can anyone link me some cheap single speed parts?
I wanna get
https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...rsion+Kit.aspx
and then i dont know about the front gear, or the chain. Thats what i need help with. And i am also looking at a chainguide and bash guard.

Yeah single speeds are a lot of fun, dont have to worry about messing anything up.
My "beater bike" is a SS and I am using what you posted above and this
https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...Tensioner.aspx
You will also have to buy this becasue your HR has vertical drops.
If your really cheap you can also rig up your derailleur to work as a chain tension so you can run SS, but regardless if your derailleur has snapped you will need to replace it.

As for converting you will need a chain whip and a casset tool, just bring you back wheel to a shop and they should do it for free.

^^^ ya the e13 ones a plastic but they are the stronest ones out there!!!
And yea a SS chainring is really no different from what you have, would be a big waist of money!

o wow thats really suprising that plastic is the strongest. O ok i only wanted the ss chainring becasue of the taller teeth but if you say its a waist of money i belive you lol. Ya the main reason for all of this is because i jump, alot. And i crash, alot. So say i end up totally despising ss, can i swith back to gears without a lot of problems? o and i want to use the cheapest possible components that are still reliable, the e13 guards are a little pricey compared to what ive seen. plus i like the ones with the mean looking teeth haha, even though i never go over logs so it wouldnt matter....
o what about this kit, https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=5132
Unless its terrible quality it looks good to me, nice and cheap lol

^^^ Ya the e13 is pricey but worth it, dont get one with the teeth those are soooo stupid. The bashguard is probally a pos and you wount really be able to ride with long pants, the teeth we probally catch em.
As for the kit...that is mighty cheap, the chain tensioner on it is spring loaded and is ment for XCish types of riding. The one is posted is MUCH stronger!

haha ok well ill go with the chain tentioner listed and the first kit, then im just getting a cheap bash guard. I really want to only spend around 50 bucks. which would happen if it wasnt for the fact that somehow i feel as through i will die without a chainguard haha
oooo wait a sec how about this kit https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...speed+Kit.aspx
the one with the guide spacers
the bash guard can wait i suppose

lol ok well i am going with the original kit (cheaper) and the tensioner you suggested. From your experience do i need a bashguard right away? i could always keep the largest sprocket on as a temp one then switch to a real one later. Then if i find i really like ss im gonna get a ss specific gear. Sound good?

Ok so my dad is like pissed that i broke the bike that he bought for me that isnt even a year old. He keeps telling me that mountain bikes like mine are only meant for hardpacked dirt trails with the occasional rock or rut. I think he is insane, who is right. Please help me out here i think that my bike should be able to go off the occasional jump or small drop off.

Spacing the front chainrings???? Just take of your granny ring (smallest one) and replace the largest one with the bashguard.
You will also want to have the bike shop but on the single speed converter.

I have replaced the rear rim with a doubletrack, and have replaced the frame.
