Looking to replace my seatpost and seat

Ok, I have the stock cannondale "expert" Saddle and seatpost which looks ugly and torn(the seat not the post). I'm looking for a nice upgrade and lightness and I'm not a cheapie! So MTB experts, what can you suggest for me on the seat and post? I was looking at CF seatposts, but am hearing horror stories about them (and I usually like horror stories near Halloween! ).

Ok, let me reword my phrase "I'm not a cheapie" w/ "I'm not frugal, but look for the best bang-for-buck parts"! $430(retail, I'm sure) is a little high considering I got the whole bike(C-dale Jekyll, Hope Mini hydros, mavic wheels/michelin mud tires, race face dues headset, Marzocchi Bomber) for $600! I thank you for your suggestions, though! Any seatposts/seats suggestions for under $250(retail)?

I've just ordered a Thomson Elite seatpost and WTB Laser V Stealth saddle for about $150 before shipping. I love WTB saddles and figured on getting a bombproof seatpost.

How much of a difference will I see between the masterpiece and the elite? Is it worth the extra $$$?

It's just a weight-weenie difference. Fart before you get on the bike and you've saved yourself the price difference between the Elite and Masterpiece. Also the Masterpiece is still a strong seatpost but not as strong as the Elite.

I looked up the details.
- Masterpiece costs about $60 more than the Elite
- Elite weighs on average 40g more than the Masterpiece
- Elite is stronger than the Masterpiece.

Thompson elite 89$ on jenson. Selle Italia, you could find it somewhere for about the same price. Now you have only spent 180$ on some amazing new parts.

If you are riding a hardtail, you should consider a Thudbuster seatpost. Since it gives by design, it is very sturdy. It takes the edge off and allows one to stay seated over bumpy stuff.
