A Bent Derailer Hanger

You've probably had this thread before, but here it goes. I took a fall in the cold days of summer/fall, and was a bit upset to the point where I didn't want to fix my bike right away. Spring has come and I need to start riding!! How do you fix one of those bent derailer hangers?? Or do I have to down more money on having the bike shop fix it expensively??
Thanks

I am assuming it is non replaceable...if so then get a shop to do it. If it is aluminum you may be out of luck. If it is steel it should take a couple of minutes.

Bring it to the LBS whether it is the replaceable version or not. They have some tools that they can use to properly align the hanger and will be able to tell you if it is bent beyond "bending back" or not. If it is not of the replaceable variety, they can tell you if the frame is now trash or not. What brand of bike do you have? Some bikes (like Schwinn) are hard to find hangers for. Going to someplace like a machine shop and asking for a copy of the current hanger might work. The hangers from most companies are not hard to get ahold of the shop most likely stocks them.
