I changed the tires on the Manik...so you know what that means...more pictures!

Put a cute little 2.7 on the front and a 2.5 on the rear. The Nevegals with the Stick-E rubber usually grip well but I think this is the first I've really ridden Nevegals in the winter and after 3-4 ride, they suck. Very slippery...but they're good for practicing getting used to the front tire sliding out in turns.

The Peyto, now with slacker angles courtesy of Manitou Nixon 160mm. 67 degree head angle vs. the 68 with the Pike fork up front.

Plan to ride it this way a bit, then swap the forks back and forth a bit to see which I prefer. So far, digging the slacker angles with the Nixon.

Yes, the frame was built with this tall of a fork in mind, and beefed up accordingly. 26# as is. Balloons up to 27-28 with burlier tires, M647 pedals.

I can't see the pics here at work but I kind of went the other way with my Manik. I originally built it with a 2005 Marz 66 150mm (which is an extremely tall fork, about 570mm A-to-C). The bike was an okay ride but it felt like a big, sluggish bike. I swapped the Pike (about 520mm A-to-C) and the bike felt so different. Small, nimble, snappy...I ride it all the time now and before I put the Pike on, I was contemplating selling it.

Did you notice a significant handling difference?

518mm--->540mm isn't quite as big a difference as you went through. a bit slower steering, but my other bike is 66 degrees, so it hasn't been bad. i run the pike with a taller crown race and 5mm taller lower headset cup too, to gain a bit more a2c height/slackness, so it actually sits around 528mm. all this doesn't account for sag though. in actuality, i think it only altered it to about 67.5 or so.

i'll swap them back and forth the next month or so on a few rides to see which i really prefer.

The first is my old school Kona Kilauea I bought new in '94...been riding it year round ever since and I hope to never get rid of it. The second is my first try at a full suspension rig. It's a Haro Shift R5 that I'm not real crazy about...hope to sell it soon just b/c I don't ride it.

They are aesthetically pleasing considering the 'hump'.

The pictures were taken literally after it was finished being assmebled.

The height of the frame and the 'shortness' of the rear make them amazing to flick around.

They are a great frame in tight / twisty single track.

Nothing special. Just an 04 Gary Fisher Cake 3 DLX I bought from a friend with less than 400 miles on it. Slowly making it my own. RaceFace bars, Stem (on order) Lizard Skins lock on grips, Forte SPD/Platform pedals. Will be getting RaceFace cranks and headset soon.

Nah, their grips don't have any holes in them to make them lighter and more prone to snapping.

Also, this was a joint project between a friend and I, all we need left it brake lines and it'll be ready to hit the road:
