I've done it many times. It's not a riser vs. flat bar thing. It's a handlebar width thing. That's what you aren't understanding. You can ride the same tight, wooded, twisty trail with a riser or a flat bar, at the same speed.

Because they can be the same width!

Bike fit.
If you read my previous post it says, narrower bar vs a wider bar! and a flat bar you can cut down and make it more narrow, FYI

You can get the same bar height with a riser bar by using a stem with less rise and now your just trying to come up with any type of reply that you can, and it's making you sound stupider each time b/c you keep leaving out the key words in my replies which is why I make them bold but you seem to keep missing them.

You can also cut down riser bars if necessary. Go figure!

Pssst....what about sweep? That's something that you are ignoring or unaware of.

Your claim that you think I'm sounding "stupider" illustrates your lack of understanding about the subject that you are trying to argue about.

I never said you couldn't did I? I said you can cut them down MORE then risers. Oh, well if you can't grasp the concept that I'm saying, then I'm gonna stop trying to get you to understand common sense. Later.

Exactly how narrow do you think a flat handlebar has to be to "make you faster" than you would be using a riser bar?

I understand what you are "saying."

It is not common sense, or even remotely factual. Later.

My fork finally came in the mail (after the first one got lost)... The Syncros pedals are in for servicing, and I put on some Woodman Spiky pedals... The weight is 31.7lbs and feels great. I can wait until I can get out to the trails. Better pictures to follow tomorrow in daylight.

Anyhow, here is the run down:

2006 Gunnar Rock Hound frame (True Temper XO Platinum tubes) with Custom Powder coat: Candy Blue with metal flake
2008 Fox TALAS RLC Forx
Profile Crank (24/34/46)
Woodman Pedals
Phil Wood hubs laced to Syncros Big Box rims
Hope Mono Mini 183mm disc brakes
Shimano XTR 970 Shifters
LX Front Dérailleur
XT Shadow Rear Dérailleur
Thomson X4 Stem
Thomson Elite seatpost
Truvativ Team Riser Bars
ODI Rogue Lock on Grips
Wipperman Connex 908 Chain
Selle Italia Saddle
Kenda Nevegal tires

It's a fixed gear dude.

"Back pedal brakes" put bone-headedly simply.

I really like that bike.

fork is a bit overkill though no?

I actually called Waterford about the 80mm for requirement and they said 100mm is fine. The TALAS might be a little overkill, but it seems to balance fine for me.

The stem is 120mm long. I have tried many other sizes and found that 120mm felt the best. I started with 80mm, then tried one at ~100mm, then tried the 120mm.

Ha, I knew it was Pete! Who else would pick out arbitrary details and base an entire argument on them? Also note the quotation formating of the post.

It looks really good, now to get you off of those profile racing cranks and onto some XT or Race Face Cranks.

LoL

I ditched the Race Face cranks for the Profile Racing... The solid 19mm 4140 CroMo spindle seems to flex less than the ISIS BB did... I have considered an external bearing version of the XT or XTR crankset, but I have been liking my Profile crank (and it only weighs about 1/4lb more than the Race Face did).

My Paragon with and without gears. I tend to run gears and front suspension for longer rides in the summer when things dry out....

... and rigid single speed for the muck.
