A begginer with £400 to spend on a new bike
Hi
I am looking to get into biking and have £400 ($790) to spend on a new mountain bike. So far this is the bike i think is the best for my situation http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=70182 Do any of you have an opinion as to if this is a good bike or if there is a better one out there? Thanks |
yabba dabba dooo thats expensive.....
in this case, 400 quid does not equal $790, bikes are stupidly expensive in the UK. |
for £400 you can do alot better then a kona fire mountain.
if you can find any, a 2006 carerra fury is 400 quid, reduced from 500 (from halfords, yes, i work there) is a much better bike then the kona at the same price (we also sell the kona) link Carrera Fury 06 alternatly a GT/giant/specialised/trek around the 400 mark will most likley have better kit on it then that kona. having worked on kona's for a number of years now i cant help but think that your simply paying for a brand name, value for money is very low on sub £1500 kona bikes. |

Kona bikes are over price for the components they come with, specially post 2005....
although, they make great frames....no gimmic, durable, very well designed, functional.....you have to ride a kona to feel the difference....so, if you can put a bike together, the best thing would be to buy a kona frame (from ebay or somewhere) and build it with the components you like or can afford.... That Carrera looks like a great deal to me, at your price point in UK...... here in the USA the prices are very different........Fire Mountain for $790...forget about it! |

Here is a mongoose that looks like it has some nice specs http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=70321 is this any better? the main thing that annoys me on the fire mountain is that its fitted with a screw on freewheel and only uses acera/alivio derailleurs, at this price point i really think thats poor from such a big brand name. |
The Fire Mountain is only$499 here... but I don't like the component group.
