Niterider Minewt?
Anyone tried the Niterider Minewt yet? My shop just got one in and this thing is tiny! Thinking about picking one up to try it out, the pic on the Niterider site seems pretty good for XC trails and on the road. I'll probably also get something like the Niterider Firestorm for DH trails and what not.
Just wanted to see if anyone has one yet :) |

I went out for a nigtride earlier this month and borrowed the Minewt. Very good output and the price is right too. I can't see needing anything brighter. Mounted to the bars it was very secure and just dumped light compared to my friend's system (unkown brand). Plus, it's durable, as noted by my night-ride newbie crash into a creek.
I'm going to pick one up for myself. I still feel like a helmet mount would be cool in conjunction. Two minewts would be more light than I would ever need. My shop manager on the same ride was using the $600 nightrider helmet setup, and that thing was insanely bright, perhaps more intense than natural sunlight. |

The NiteRider MiNewt sucks. Sure it is small, comapct, and Lithium Ion, but it doesn't compare to a standard 10watt. I would spend your money on a Niterider Trailrat, or a Sigma EvoX. Really, dollar for dollar, the Sigma Evo X is the way to go. The Niterider MiNewt is cool, and the light colour is cool, but the light throw just isn't as good as a nice 10 watt halogen bulb. If you want LED, pony up the extra $$$ and get a Cateye DoubleShot. That is a light! The DoubleShot gives you 5 hours of run time out of a 3 hour charge, and is an awesome light for XC. The only downside of the doubleshot is that it only has 2 settings, off and on. I heard there is a new DoubleShot Pro coming out that will have a high and low setting, and even more light output, but is going to be HID priced.
LED is the wave of the future, the MiNewt is a dissappointing first attempt by NR though. If you are considering a MiNewt, just save some money and get a good 10 watt halogen system. |

Just wanted to see if anyone has one yet :) Reason for going for this lamp is that the HID's that will improve on this are Ultra Expensive over here. You think $300- we pay $600, and that is only for the Low power units with low battery life. The HID I want that will give me what I want is $1200 over here. Then they go up from there. That is just my particular problem but you can buy cheaper. Hid's are the best you can get for light output. Problems are affording them and battery life on what you can afford. The High power Luxions are Good. Wheras the HID's throw out Excessive light-and that cannot be a bad thing- The Luxions are GOOD enough, and are cheaper. I have a friend that has the Blackburn X3. This is still a 3w luxion but only a single lamp. It is pretty good for offroading- not as good as my exposure but still pretty good. Cateye also do a Double 3w Luxion and a Triple. I have heard that these can start at around $200 over in the US. and I am hearing good report about those too. Halogen lamps may be old hat but they are still cheap. I would go for a Twin lamp version with a minimum of 10W on each bulb. set that as the lowest standard, or the equivalent, you can get a way with and you will not go wrong. Just to give you an idea- My Exposure lamp was $500-Thanks to currency exchange it will still be Expensive in the US. but the Link is below. http://www.use1.com/exposure/product...duro/index.php |
I know 3 roadies that own Minewts. They're ok for the road but like others have mentioned, I don't think they're good enough on dirt.

I ride with only the best...

No minewt, but it should give you a good comparison of light intensity relative to different wattages and bulbs. |

I use one of these bright and cheap .. only knock against it is it doesn't come with a smart charger. I only have 1 and basically just ride the pitch black backroads here. One on the bars and one on the helmet would be an excellent setup.. |
