A low end version of it with the seat at a bad angle is hardly reflective of all Bruisers out there.
You can find pics floating around of plenty of high end bikes with bad setups, too.
Mostly it's the Trek name thing. Their reputation is built on XC racing and general use mtbs, road, and bikes for the family. Not burly hardtails and freeride machines. Yeah, they are making good stuff in those ranges now, but they have some prior percieved notions working against them in the marketplace.

I thought bruisers got a bad rap because they're ugly as sin, and have a tendancy to snap in half.

the Bruiser 3 doesn't deserve any respect anyway, its a freak, hardly what I would have chosen to top out the Bruiser line up. A even more spec'd out Bruiser hardtail should have been the Bruiser 3, not that monstrosity they call the Bruiser 3. The hardtail frame is a nice frame (IMO)
the thing that erks me about the first pic is, why would you put that nasty fork on it, when the stock fork is bound to be better than that THING

Why does someone's opinion bother you?
[EDIT]
How does it effect you? It doesn't.
I have my opinions; MY way of seeing things. No matter if they're skewed.
You have you're right to question my opinion and as do I to you.

Oh Lord, here it comes...
"why would you put that nasty fork on it, when the stock fork is bound to be better than that THING"
That person may have broken the frame on their worn out Trek 4300. They saw the Trek Bruiser frame on eBay for next to nothing and bought it to replace the 4300 that couldn't hold up the the rigors of Super Freeride Trek 4300 style.:
There are many people out there that just build their bike instead of buying it off the shelf. Heck, if I had a freeride frame, rigid fork, road wheels, and ape hangers just lying around...what the heck, man. I'd build it just for fun.

In all honesty it doesn't physically bother me, more of a mind boggling decision on their part which bothers me as more of an annoyance. Like I said, it comes down to opinions. I have an opinion that they made a ****ty decision. NOW, does it actually matter what fork they choose. NO. It is their bike and they can do with it as they please.

Got it, and I'm still laughing at folks that have some (most? all?) of their self-worth tied up in a collection of aluminum tubes.
