I just installed a set of Deore Hydraulics (m525) on my CDale Rush. I am very happy with them. I spoke to a bunch of mechanics asking about the Juicy 5 and the Hayes 9's. They all said the Juicy's are very good but several of them went on to mention how underrated the Deore's are. According to a couple of mechanics they are easy to set up and they never need attention. The mineral oil is way easier to handle than the DOT fluid. I have never worked on Hydraulics before and I was able to switch the hose length myself. I got them for $100us (for the pr) from Cambriabike.com... I guess it depends on how you are going to use them. For regular xc riding I think the Deores are by far the best deal out there.

In order to answer this question properly you really need to give more details. People will need to know what type of riding you do, if weight's an issue, if price is an issue, and how much you weigh may help as well.
I've ridden a few but only have alot of experience with Maguras. Because of the experience I have with them, that's my brand of preference. In fact, I just picked up the new Marta Carbons but haven't been able to install them yet. I may wait until spring anyway, let my old ones run the few times I get out in the winter. They also run on mineral oil.
The big advantage to mineral oil,in addition to the lack of environmental impact, is that it is not hydroscopic (doesn't absorb water) which could cause various issues if too much water is absorbed. I'm familar with the effects of water in relation to autos, but not exactly sure if you could heat bike brakes up to boil the fluid or various other issues that can occur.

dang Quick... those brakes are tiny. they must weigh very little. and they have plenty of stopping power??
oh and to the OP... I have had BB5's and now have BB7's. I like the BB7's because you can adjust the pads on both sides of the rotor, which you cannot on the BB5's. they work great on my commuter... 55lb bike loaded with 205lb rider.

Obviously as you can see, there is no 'the best' disc brake out there. There are many good quality brakes that have been mentioned. Try a few, get one that suits your style and budget. Oh and a word of advice, i don't beleive mineral oil is better then dot 4, or visa versa.

Can Hydro brake hoses be cut to length, or are they factory finished and left as is?
I have read something about the new XTR caliper's hose has a direct plug in, as such may require a big loop on certain frames.
I'm considering Juicy 7's, or Ultimates.
Any thoughts on the Formula Oro's? I'm such a sucker for Italian stuff

yes you can cut the brake hose length, but make sure you find some info about cutting hydro brake hose. And damn the new Hope rotor looks sweet

Tricks are dumb on mountian bikes, I dont mind doing tables and small stuff like that, but BMX stuff like tailwhips and such are dumb.
