I popped into the Road forum just to look around and read some stuff. I was looking thru some of the replys people have posted and they are just mean! They trashed this poor guy for posting somthing discussed a week ago! They are all stuck up and dont like the simple questions. There like that on the road and in the shops. If they think they are better they ignor you. And they like to brag about ther 15 lbs bikes and Dura Ace parts.


Has anyone else noitced this?

Do a search, this has been discussed as many times as campy vs shimano, sram vs shimano. Surely it doesn't need to be done again.

*edit - BTW keep in mind that a good percentage of mountain bikers are also roadies.

yes, but a true roadie's can be a little self-conscious.

and I have some true roadie friends that are the coolest people in the world.

I also ride a road bike, but I have to say, I almost never visit the road forum. I can't remember the last time I did. I think the reason is that so many of them are seriously annoying, uptight people. I don't encounter that as much out on the road or in the shop though.

I see the same in this subforum, too. There are jerks everywhere. The road section just has more because, well, there are more of them.

Yes, although in my recipe I use shrimp, mussels and clams. The secret is to avoid taking any shortcuts. Avoid the temptation to cook the shellfish on the rice. Take the time to steam the mussels and the clams in a nice dry white wine separately. Reserve the liquid.

The second tip I can offer you is to buy whole, fresh shrimp. If you can score the heads even better. Peel the shrimps rip off the heads. Boil the shells and the heads to make a simple shrimp stock. Use this along with the reserved clam and mussel juice as the base to cook your rice.

Tomorrow I may share some tips for making pork/shrimp wontons and cooking them in a spicy thai-style broth.

Im both a roadie and a MTB'er. I dont think there is a big difference... however, there are a lot more fat people in spandex on the road forum In this forum, people can be fat, but they wont be in spandex.

Thats my generalization, and Im sticking to it

Anyway, there are always a handful of people that somehow forget that they were new once and posted thread when they could have searched and blah blah.

Anyway, what I am curious most about is what frame material is best.... hrrmmmmm**********

All I know is dont mess with one of them on the road! If you dont give them enough space to pass they will flip out! Or if you pass them, they are so offended its like you just bashed thier mama

Roadies around here are pretty nice and same with mountain bikers when I go to the trails. I wonder if I should pop into the roadie forums and see what's going on.

I'm both MTB and roadie, but I tend to stay out of that forum--a bunch of guys past their prime who think they'll be the next Lance (I'm stereotyping by the way). I did see a presta vs. schrader thread that got way out of hand to a point where a guy pointed out that real bikes have prestas, schrader's are for cars and kids bikes and MTB's aren't real bikes but a marketing phenomenon (like SUV's). I usually go to foo when I need road bike help.

I'd have to say that for most riders, whatever you like is the best frame material. Unless you're a pro, it really doesn't matter. I myself prefer steel, because I abuse my MTB's, am a clyde, and like the tensile strength, but I wouldn't mind aluminum or titanium either. I kind of shy from carbon on the MTB, but that's due to me being a clydesdale. I'm pretty low maintenance on that kind of stuff. My current rig is out of a $45 steel nashbar frame made with spare parts. She runs beautifully.

in my experience road riders in real life are *******s, arrogant bastards. we are each riding bikes a nod or a wave ain't gonna kill you, as well as me talking to you as i pass you on my singlespeed mountain bike you *******s

Don't be a fool! Im a 'bent rider myself and I ain't offended when someone passes me. TBH its more of a shock to look up and just see a rider's legs spinning above your shoulders. Many riders in the bent forum split their time equally among 'bents and diamond frames so I dont see how there could be anything different.

As for the original argument. I tend to agree with the original poster. The LBS I get my servicing done at is full of roadies. They're a real bunch of pricks. You ask a simple question and you never get a straight answer and are always displayed the type of body language from them that's just saying you're a loser. Its even worse when you approach a real slow peleton down the road on your MTB. They look at you after you've said "hi", quickly turn to the front then scream out,
"C'mon boys, there's a MTB keeping up!". After that they up the pace..... usually not quick enough to shake me though

On the other hand, I also own a road bike. TBH when I do ride it, draped in my lycra and visorless helmet, my state of mind does kind of change. I concerntrate more on my cadence, my face is just saying "don't **** with me" and I think I own the road. There's no way I'd act like that on a MTB- the machinery just doesn't give off that "Im better you" aura.

I think if you come across a true roadie, that is, a real arsehole, then more then likely he hasn't ridden anything else during his life. I think Im a better, more relaxed rider for riding an MTB and not a road bike exclusively. Thankfully, most roadies I ride with have been BMX'ers and MTBers in the past/present

Actually if your not dumb as a cup of dirt, we're usually nice. I also got out of freerideing because of the attitudes that were developing in this town/area with the other freeriders, so I got into BMX. The BMX riders in this town are alot nicer then the mountianbikers.

For the Mountian guys it was all about the gear, BMX guys are about having a good time as long as your riding.

I've noticed that around here too, but it was soo mch fun rolling in on my noisy broken-down stock hardrock and showing up the kids with the $3000+ bikes.

Best was still at the local skatepark there were a few guys on fullies, one with a p2 and one with a morphine.

Some of the guys were hitting a ten stair gap, but the were only gapping the first five and the middle level out, then landing on the downhill of the stairs. I showed up on my BMX and sent it to flat, then tailwhipped to flat, then did a sketchy ninja kick to flat, then started trying 360's.

I'll never forget the looks on their faces.
