Samster I;m up here in tampa. I've been hearing a lot about markham. Have you rode there yet and what are your thoughts? Any good technical downhill or freeride sections? You know where to get a map? I've rode at san felasco (gainesville), alafia, boyette, and flatwoods. let me know if u want any info on them.

Markham

Markham is a great ride, I've been going for quite some time now. There are no downhill or freeride sections, we're in South Florida, but there are some 9-15 ft drops in the Hard sections. I consider Markham more of a technical ride since there can't be much of an extended slope. Best trail in South Florida and is continually being upgraded. Let me know if you have any more questions on specifics.

Hmmm I've been going to Holly Wood (some where near Ft. Lauderdale) at least once a year to visit my grandparents and have never really thought about doing any biking there. I guess I should give it a try.

Goalkeeper: Do you know if there are any bike rental places near by?

I did a road ride today just from North Lauderdale Down A1A for 20 miles or so. Beautiful ride and scenery. Not the nicest people I have ever met but it is pretty down here.

If your driving down I-95 stop in New Smyrna Bch!!! Killer trail with many elevation changes (20,30 foot or so) Old growth forest not too sandy not too rooty soil drains good too so not too muddy either!!! Take Sr 44 east to first light make left I think thats sugar mill? take that to pioneer trail make a left there go about 2 miles make a Right!! I forget the name of that road but its shoots off a 90 degree curve. If you go over I 95 you went too far!! Martins dairy road will be the first left off the 90 degree curve Its down the dirt road pretty far but its worth it. Its called doris leper park. I think its a county owned park. It has a good loop they closed some of the better trails from erosion!! The highlight is lepers leep which is a big drop off that overlooks the Spruce creek!! Very nice trail There are no facilities so stop at the store there on pioneer trail!!! Have fun!!!

Well I started this thread 2 years ago and have yet to get to Markham Park. We will be in Pompano Beach for the Christmas week and PLAN to get there this time around. Has anyone ridden there lately? Anything I need to know?

I ride it every weekend and its in great shape. You will need to go to the park office and watch a 5 minute PowerPoint Presentation and sign a form. That will give you a pass to ride the trails. Helmets and gloves are mandatory.

No bike rentals though.

If you need a rental you can hit Oleta in Miami. Its not really that far and its easy to get to. They rent bikes, no need for a pass to ride and gloves aren't mandatory. Its a good trail as well. Not as technical as Markham but pretty damn fun.

When will you be in town? I can try to meet you at one of the parks

you can Kayak the mangroves and maybe see some Dolphins and Manatees, if the weather is good you can do some snorkeling and also hit the trails. Its a good all around park for a very full day.
