n00b got another n00b into biking!
Great riding day today! I have been trying to get my girlfriend into biking (even bought her a bike and taught her how to ride it) for a few months now, and bless her heart, she really tried, but never really enjoyed it. She always thought she had to do it to keep me company, but I've always wanted her to enjoy it for herself!
Well, it must have been my choice of trails, coz today, we went to a part of the SF Bay Trail where Oracle meets Foster City, and because of the nice homes and parks and few people, she was quite taken by the experience. We rode for at least 10 miles today, which for a couple of beginners (one of us being a true beginner), is quite an accomplishment!
She wants to go back there every week now. I guess this isn't really a mountain bike trail, but we were riding MTBs.

Excellent, the most important factor of any sport/athletic activity is the enjoyment of it. Everything else is seconday, seems like you found something that worked! Have fun

Rails to Trails Conservacy. It's a group that utilizes old abandoned rail road tracks and converts them to cycling/walking paths. The Conservacy has over 1,000 miles of trails converted and is spread throughout the Conti US., maybe even Canada.
These Rail/Trails are pretty boring for the avid mtn biker, but great for the family and recreational cyclist.
